MOORHOUSE’S DOUBLE CELEBRATION OF SUMMER

Leading Lancashire independent brewery Moorhouse’s will celebrate summer with the roll out of two seasonal cask specials.
July hails Rye (4.1%) hoppy pale ale – ‘the rye malt imparts a dry, creamy character which is complemented with a note of spice and resin and fresh citrus on the aroma’. August sees Rio (3.9%) golden ale ‘with fresh citrus, pine and floral aromas…. fruity in the mouth, complemented with a touch of spice and hoppy aftertaste from the use of Styrian Golding hops and late addition of US Mount Hood. Both are badged with colourful and distinctive pump-clips.
Mark Boardman, Moorhouse’s sales director, says the brews will help publicans ring the changes for summer drinking and get the best from seasonal trading. He said: “Once again our brewers have come up with innovative cask ales, exploring malt and hop varieties to offer top tasting brews. They reflect the mood of the summer and supplement our award winning core range to help publicans maximize their seasonal sales.” Ends /Ref: MHPR –July and August specials
Notes to editors: Moorhouse’s, founded in 1865 as a mineral water business, is now Lancashire’s leading independent brewery with internationally acclaimed ales that pay tribute to the legend of the ill-fated ‘ Pendle Witches’, tried and executed at Lancaster in 1612. Moorhouse’s Black Cat (3.4%abv) was crowned Supreme Champion Beer of Britain at the Camra Great British Beer Festival 2000 and in 2011 was proclaimed the best moderate strength ale by the Brewing Industry International Awards (BIIA). Pride of Pendle (4.1%abv) claimed the Champion Cask Ale title at the BIIA 2004 and Premier Bitter (3.7%abv) was voted gold in class; Pendle Witches Brew (5.1%abv) was twice runner-up in the Camra annual national contest and has received a silver medal at the BIIA. Blond Witch (4.5%abv) has collected many awards from Camra and SIBA (Society if Independent Brewers). White Witch (3.9%abv) session strength ale is the latest to join the core portfolio and is the fastest growing brand. With a the state-of-the-art ‘tower’ brewery, Moorhouse’s directly supplies several hundred free trade pubs throughout the North of England and reaches outlets nationwide via contracts with major pub companies and leading drinks wholesalers.
