What is the one thing you'd like to tell visitors to the Guild's website?
Born & Bred in Burton Upon Trent, it was natural to start a career in the local Brewing industry. Initially starting at what was “Allied Breweries” at Ind Coope Burton Brewery, later becoming part of Carlsberg. As part of my Management role in Logistics, I was trained to taste our beers & competitors to ensure Quality first but also to contribute to Innovation and Cost Reduction initiatives. Later I was also a member of the Taste Panel at Molson Coors in Burton tasting all MCBC beers & ciders, taste matching and new product development. I have also tasted beers at many CAMRA & SIBA events around the country. I no longer work directly for any Brewery, but still very much involved in the industry supplying glassware, packaging, hops, Mystery Customer visits and of course tasting beers when requested.
What you can offer as a writer/beer lover?
I am currently writing a book in regards to Burton Upon Trent and trade with the Baltic States prior to Burton brewing I.P.A. as an alternative market once Napoleon made the blockade to this region of the World. I can offer to taste beers independently and contribute my opinion on the Quality, Development, and Innovation.
What do you like most about being a Guild of Beer Writers member?
As I am new to the Guild I am looking forward to socialising at events and training courses. Once I feel I have sufficient skills, adding my written contributions and thoughts on the wonderful world of beer
