Alastair Cook launches Benefit Beer at TCG’s Golden Fleece

Cricketing legend Alastair Cook went behind the bar at the Golden Fleece in Chelmsford earlier this month to launch the new cask ale brewed to mark his benefit season. The beer, from Brentwood Brewery, is available exclusively in the Golden Fleece and 19 other pubs in the TCG estate until mid-May.

Pouring the first pint of the 3.8% golden ale, Cook said, “It’s a real privilege to have a benefit year and the opportunity to support some very good causes.

“I have to admit, I’ve been more of lager drinker until now, but I’ve been getting more into ale recently.  I really like the idea of trying the local beer wherever you go. Ale has a wide range of flavours, so you have to find the ones you like, as you do with wine. The Benefit Beer is a light, golden ale which is definitely the style I prefer.”

The 3.8% ABV golden ale was brewed by local Brentwood Brewery, who have produced benefit season ales for a number of Essex cricketers, also showcased at the Golden Fleece. A percentage from each pint sold of the latest beer will go to the Alastair Cook Benefit Fund, supporting four charities: MIND, Chance to Shine, The David Randall Foundation and The PCA.

The Golden Fleece is one of TCG’s top cask ale pubs and general manager Brett Sanders has been a driving force behind the launch of the beer.
