Ale & Radio Hands the Overnight Airwaves to Australia’s Beer Down Under in Global Expansion Move

United Kingdom – January 2026

Beer-themed online station Ale & Radio has announced a new international partnership with Beer Down Under, Australia’s only dedicated beer radio programme, which will officially launch on the network on Monday 26 January — Australia Day.

The collaboration sees Beer Down Under taking over Ale & Radio’s UK and European night-time and early-morning schedule, when most local listeners are asleep. During these hours, the station will be transformed into a distinctly Australian beer experience, with original beer-focused content and a rotating soundtrack of music popular with worldwide audiences with a lean to Australian music tastes.

A Station with a Global Audience — from Sheffield

Broadcasting from a pub shed studio in Sheffield, Ale & Radio may be rooted in the UK, but it already attracts listeners from around the world. The station features programming from international contributors, including shows presented by voices from the United States, and now extends its reach further through the addition of Beer Down Under.

Launched in April 2024, Ale & Radio has recorded over 82,000 streams to date and is currently achieving more than 2,000 streams per week, reflecting steady and sustained audience growth.

Turning Downtime into Global Reach

Rather than leaving overnight hours lightly programmed, Ale & Radio is using the partnership to create a truly global 24-hour station. While the UK sleeps, Australian beer stories, voices, and music will fill the airwaves — introducing Ale & Radio to new audiences across Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Beer Down Under Takes the Mic

From its Australia Day launch on Monday 26 January, Beer Down Under will deliver a high-energy programme dedicated entirely to Australian beer culture. The show will cover industry news, beer education, brewing history, travel, and emerging styles, all backed by a curated rotation of Australian music.

For Ale & Radio, the takeover brings fresh, purpose-built content to off-peak European hours. For Beer Down Under, it provides an established international platform and a gateway to European listeners.

Hosted by The Beerducator

The programme is hosted by Nigel Ayling, also known as The Beerducator. Nigel is the founder of We Love Craft Beer, established in 2015 and now home to one of Australia’s largest beer communities, with more than 13,000 members.

With over 20 years’ experience in marketing and business, Nigel brings informed, accessible insight to the overnight takeover, blending industry expertise with a strong sense of community.

What Overnight Listeners Can Expect

During the Beer Down Under takeover, Ale & Radio’s overnight output will include:

  • Australian beer industry news and new releases

  • Feature segments exploring beer styles, ingredients, history, beer travel, and unusual brewing stories

  • Community-focused content highlighting breweries, venues, events, and homebrewers

  • A rotating soundtrack of Australian music, giving the station a distinct identity

A Strategic Partnership

Launching on Australia Day underscores the spirit of the partnership: celebrating beer, culture, and community across borders. By aligning UK overnight hours with Australian daytime listening, Ale & Radio strengthens its international footprint while ensuring the station remains engaging around the clock.

For listeners, Ale & Radio doesn’t go off air — it simply changes accents.
