North Ayrshire Licensing committee has granted permission for the Arran Brewery to convert the former Bower Bar in Kilburnie into a family oriented gastro pub. The building and beer garden to the rear will be called the Weavers in honour of the towns historic weaving tradition.
Managing Director Gerald Michaluk said “It is very good to have the support of the community council in this venture. Refurbishment will start soon and we hope to have the beer flowing quite quickly.
The pub will have a nano-brewery inside that will make speciality beers to be served exclusively in the Weavers along with a menu reflecting the regions best produce and those of Arran of course”.
This is the Arran Brewery’s second public house, the first being opened in St Fillans as part of a Hotel, Brewery and Visitor Centre complex on Loch Earn.
In Breghorn, not far from Kilburnie, Arran Brewery also received a license for its proposed bottling facility and mail order business that will be located in the former Dreghorn Primary School now renamed the Arran View Brewery Dreghorn.,
Arran’s Dreghorn Brewery will, subject to Regional Selected Assistance grant application produce Scotland’s first Sake. Gerald commented “This is now a “shovel ready project which can be in production within months of a favourable decision on RSA assistance”.
The brewery recently purchased a brewery in Cambridgeshire and hopes to use this as a staging post for its move into the London Market later in the year. This brewery the Devil’s Dyke will be in production for the height of the summer.
