BATEMANS PLANS TO SUPPORT MORE YOUNG PEOPLE AFTER SUCCESSFUL START OF APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME

Batemans, the family brewer based in Lincolnshire, has seen real success through its apprenticeship programme, with all three of those taking part progressing through the company and continuing their education while at work.

The previous three apprentices on the scheme originally came to Batemans for a temporary work experience placement, but showed such promise that they were given full time, permanent positions.

Clare Pritchard, who joined Batemans on an administration apprenticeship, has just completed her NVQ Level 2 in Business and Administration, and now plans to progress on to Level 3 this academic year. Clare currently works in the accounts department, and relished the opportunity to work for a profitable local business while also achieving more qualifications which were relevant to her job role.

Harriet Hanson has achieved excellent results while working at Batemans as an Administration Apprentice. Alongside her NVQ Level 2 in Business and Administration, which she has just completed, Harriet has attended training that will specifically help her job role, including cellar quality and wine tasting courses. She now works in the Profit Partnership area of the company, and manages the recruitment of new tenants and helps to organise the brewery’s events.

Scott Lawrence was the third person to join the Batemans apprenticeship scheme, as a Transport Operations Apprentice, and was assessed for his NVQ level 2 in Business and Administration both at the brewery and at Skegness college. He also completed training courses including manual handling, cellar management, first aid and how to run a pub successfully. Scott has enjoyed being able to immediately apply the skills he has learnt through his studies to his job, and plans to stay at Batemans for many years to come.

Harriet commented: “I love working at Batemans and have never felt so appreciated. The work is very varied which I enjoy, and I relish the responsibility I’ve been given. It’s been great to earn more qualifications while working, and Batemans has already said they will support me if I want to progress on to a higher level such as a diploma – I really feel like part of the family!”

Stuart added: “We think it’s incredibly important to support young people as they will be the future of the brewery, and we’re very proud of everything Clare, Harriet and Scott have achieved while apprentices at Batemans.”
