Belhaven Scoops Gold at World Beer Awards

The team at Scotland’s oldest working brewery, Belhaven, are celebrating their success after being named the ‘UK’s best Oat Stout’ at a prestigious global competition.

Their much-loved Scottish Oat Stout wowed the judges at the recent World Beer Awards, who crowned it ‘country winner’ in the Oat Stout category, whilst the brewery’s Scottish Ale received a bronze medal in the Amber Ale category.

Established in 1719 and known today as ‘The Home of Scottish Brewing’, Belhaven has been producing some of the nation’s favourite beers for over 300 years. Situated in the historic coastal town of Dunbar, its award-winning range of premium beers and ales include Scotland’s No.1 ale Belhaven Best and No.1 stout, Belhaven Black.

The latest awards cap a successful year to date for the brewery, which recently launched a new TV advertising campaign and a lively sponsorship and events programme, including a range of masterclasses at the popular Scottish festival Fringe by the Sea.

The Brewery has also recently launched a new Visitor Experience at its Dunbar-based home on the beautiful East Lothian coast, that welcomes visitors to explore the fascinating process and history behind the award-winning beers.

Fiona Matheson, Brand Manager at Belhaven Brewery said:
“Our whole team is thrilled to win two new awards at such a key international competition. For over 300 years we have combined the great traditions and techniques of Scottish brewing with superb quality ingredients – local barley, water and Belhaven yeast. To have our beers recognised at the highest level, really underlines the world class status of our range and pays testament to the passion, pride and craftmanship of our brewery team.”

The World Beer Awards took place last weekend in London and drew on the expertise of more than 200 international judges, the awards aim to ensure that each and every beer is rigorously judged fairly to give every brewery its best chance in the competition.
