Carluccios is set to launch Birra Del Borgo’s highly acclaimed Italian craft beers across the 88 sites of its estate on 24th of March 2015.

Carluccios will be at the sharp end of a growing trend amongst restaurants for beefing up its beer selection in light of the global craft beer boom. Michael Stocks, International Operations Manager at Carluccio’s, said:

“We’re always looking to offer authentic Italian products and introduce new food and drinks to our customers. With the rise of Italian craft beers, we thought now was an ideal time.”

“We chose Birra Del Borgo as one of the pioneers of the Italian craft beer scene and selected two very versatile beers – perfect as an aperitivo – yet with enough structure to pair perfectly with our antipasti dishes or lighter mains.”

As the first UK chain to stock Italian craft beer, Carluccios hopes to corner the market for the thinking drinker and enhance Birra Del Borgos strong reputation for creating beers that work brilliantly with food.

The first two beers to hit the shelves will be Del Borgo’s flagship beer, Reale, and the golden ale – Cortigiana. Reale is a 6.4% IPA with delicious notes of grapefruit, freshly ground white pepper and a balanced yet bitter finish.  Cortigiana at 5% is softer with a bewitching floral citrus aroma and honey-like malt backbone.

Andreas Fält of Leeds based UK importers, Atlas Brands, said:

“Italian craft beer has made significant inroads into the UK and US markets in recent years and Italy is acknowledged as one of the key up-and-coming beer brewing nations. Birra Del Borgo and head brewer, Leonardo Di Vicenzo, are leading lights of the Italian scene and we’re over the moon that their beers will be available to the patrons of Carluccios.”

Birra DelBorgo hail from Borgorose on the border between the Lazio and Abruzzo regions of Italy. Hailed as a pioneer of the Italian beer scene, owner and head brewer Leonardo Di Vincenzo led the Italian revolution with exciting, beautifully presented beers and highly regarded collaborations with the likes of Sam Calagione of US firebrand brewery, Dogfishhead. In 2007 BdB opened Bir e Fud in Rome’s Trastervere district. Further expansion into the food sphere came in 2009 with the opening of Open Baladin, again in Rome with head chef and now legendary baker, Gabrielle Bonci, and La Birreria, a brewpub on the rooftop of the New York eatery, Eataly, which opened in the heart of Manhattan in 2011.

Antionio Carluccio opened his first restaurant in 1999 in Market Place, London; an authentic Italian restaurant with integrated food shop. The chain expanded across the UK. In 2005,Carluccio’s listed on the Alternative Investment Market as a PLC. In 2010 the company received a takeover offer from the Landmark Group, a Dubai-based enterprise, valuing Carluccio’s at £90m. The transaction was approved by the shareholders and completed in October 2010. Carluccio’s aim is to provide great quality, authentic Italian food at sensible prices with excellent yet informal service.

Atlas Brands was started in Leeds by Andreas Fält and Giulio Temporin in 2012 to promote new craft beer breweries and brands, Andreas was instrumental in the rise of US craft beer in the UK in turn influencing the current UK brewing scene. Held in high regard by brewers and distributors alike, Andreas worked for two and a half years as Ambassador of the US Brewers Association and is honored as a Knight of the Brewer’s Mashstaff.
