New booklet empowers brewery workers to fight back against workplace abuse and unsafe conditions
The Brewery Workers’ Union (BWU), a section of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), is proud to announce the release of a new resource for brewery employees: “Don’t Suffer In Silence”, a step-by-step guide to dealing with problems at work for brewery workers .
This concise, accessible booklet is a practical tool designed to help brewery workers identify, document, and challenge unfair treatment and unsafe working conditions. From unpaid labour and bullying to harassment and exploitative conditions, the guide offers clear steps and advice for taking action—collectively and effectively.
“Too many people in the brewing industry suffer in silence or are forced to leave jobs they love because of preventable issues,” said a spokesperson from the BWU. “This guide is about changing that. It’s about giving workers the tools to stand their ground, get support, and win real improvements in the workplace.”
Key features of the guide include:
Six clear steps for addressing workplace issues—starting with why you shouldn’t quit
Practical advice on collecting evidence and building support
Guidance on how to raise concerns with management
Tips for following up and holding employers accountable
Real-life success stories from union-supported cases
Whether you’re working in packaging, brewing, delivery, or behind the bar, the booklet encourages workers to speak up early, act together, and get union support.
The guide is freely available to download and share with fellow workers: https://londoniww.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/BWU_Problems-at-work-web.pdf
It is part of a wider campaign by the IWW to improve job security, wages, and safety across the brewing sector.
