Brick Brewery this week adds its first gluten-free addition into the fold and was well worth the wait according to initial customer feedback. Peckham Helles, Gluten-Free Helles Lager 4.2%, will join the other permanent fixtures in the Foundation range.
“It’s fair to say that we’ve taken our time over this”, says founder Ian Stewart, “we’ve wanted to do it for a long time but we don’t mess around when it comes to quality and flavour so it really mattered that we got it right. Technically, we’re very proud of the result but the proof is always in the customer feedback – so far, so good on that front! Brick is all about being inclusive and offering something for all beer tastes and all beer moments, Peckham Helles really helps us live that philosophy in real time and gives us another very strong string to our bow.”
Using newly developed enzymes to remove unwanted gluten, Peckham Helles is classified as gluten reduced/free, without the use of non-traditional brewing grains such as sorghum or maize.
“We’re really seeing a change in how customers approach beer both in the on- and off-trade” adds Ian. “It’s really important to be agile enough to be relevant and offer choice. We’re hoping our Helles will be a hit with the trade where there’s been a significant rise in the need for decent gluten-free beers that stand up to their gluten contemporaries. As we move into 2020, where consumers are increasingly aware of what they want – we have an exciting few months ahead for our Helles I think!”
Fermented and conditioned slowly to develop a subdued floral yeast character and filtered for crystal clarity, Peckham Helles is designed simply for drinking, not thinking. This Peckham Helles has a soft bitterness with light, fruity yeast esters and herbal spice. Refreshing and moreish with a clean and crisp finish.
Brick Brewery enjoys face-to-face contact with its customers at the Taproom where initial tastings of the Peckham Helles have gone down really well.

About Brick Brewery: Established in 2013, Brick Brewery is a family-owned, award-winning, independent brewery based in SE London. With a production site in Deptford and a Taproom at its original brewing site in Peckham, the team works closely with the local community and businesses to produce great quality beers.
Brick Brewery started life in the shed of founder Ian Stewart’s garden in Peckham. Eventually growing to a production brewery under Peckham Rye station and then Deptford as the demand continued to rise. The name Brick Brewery is a nod to the bricks of the railway arch in which the brewery began its life and which now houses the Taproom.
Passionate about producing consistent and great quality beer to challenge the perception of the beer enthusiast and everyday beer drinker, Brick’s beers are inspired by the many travels of the ever-growing team and the creative and cultural surroundings of South East London.
