CARLSBERG UK IS FIRST BREWER TO SIGN UP TO ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Carlsberg UK has announced it is the first brewer to sign up to the government’s new Courtauld Commitment aimed at reducing the environmental impacts in the manufacturing industry.

The voluntary Courtauld Commitment, part of the government’s Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), aims to reduce the carbon footprint and improve resource efficiency of the manufacturing, grocery and retail sector.

Already, Carlsberg UK has made huge strides in their CSR efforts, including a reduction of 14 per cent in carbon emissions and a seven per cent decrease in the amount of water used throughout the brewing process.

Matt Winterburn, Carlsberg UK’s head of CSR, says: “We are proud to be the first brewery to have voluntarily agreed to the Courtauld Commitment. As part of our environmental leadership in the brewing industry, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact. Many of our retail customers expected to also sign this agreement so it demonstrates we will be able to work closely with them to help them achieve their aims too.

Richard Swannell, director at WRAP said: “Over the years, Carlsberg UK has been a valuable and proactive partner to the Courtauld Commitment, demonstrating their readiness to reduce waste.  We look forward to working with them as a founding signatory.”
