CARLSBERG UK OFFICIALLY OPENS NEW BOTTLING LINE: ‘THE CARLSBERG CUBE’

Carlsberg UK has officially opened the latest facility in a major £60m development of its Northampton site.

A new bottling line, which doubles the output at the Bridge Street brewery, was opened today (11 March 2013) by Carlsberg Group’s president and CEO, JØrgen Buhl Rasmussen.

Speaking at the opening, Mr Rasmussen explained the importance of the bottling line. He said: “This bottling line secures our long-term future in our UK home of Northampton where we have been based for over 30 years.  It provides jobs for the town and demonstrates to the wider world that Northampton is a key centre for business.

“The UK is an incredibly important market for Carlsberg Group and the completion of this project means that all UK bottling can now be done in the UK. This is good news for us, it’s good news for our customers, our consumers, and importantly, it’s great news for British brewing.”

Furthermore, the new bottling line has been designed to ensure that resource and environmental impacts are minimised. This includes a 3,000 litre rain water harvesting tank and the building exceeds stringent UK efficiency regulations by six per cent.

The 7,000 square metre facility has been named the Carlsberg Cube following an internal competition amongst the brewer’s employees to come up with a fitting name for the building which is adjacent to the River Nene and one of the first buildings to be constructed in the Northampton Enterprise Zone.

The bottling line will bottle the full range of Carlsberg UK beers including Carlsberg, Export, Tuborg, San Miguel and Fresca, as well as the newly launched cider, Somersby.

  • It can bottle enough beer every week to fill an Olympic sized swimming pool.

  • Running at maximum speed, the bottling line can produce up 10 million bottles a week.

  • The bottling line is the same size as half a football pitch.
