Continental Lager Takes Bronze at SIBA’s Midlands Beer Awards

Davenports Brewery were delighted to be awarded a Bronze Medal in the Premium Lager category for their recently revived Continental Lager, at SIBA’s prestigious Midlands Independent Beer Awards 2022.

The lager, which was first brewed in the 60s and won several awards to include; ‘First Prize Winning Lager’ at the Brewers Exhibition in 1968 and the ‘Monde Twentieth Selection of Beer Gold Medal’ in 1981, has only very recently been reintroduced by Davenports following several decades of absence from the market.

Cen Hayward, Sales Director, Davenports Brewery explains; “Continental Lager was such a big thing for Davenports over the years, and we decided to revive it due to its former popularity and the increase in demand for premium lagers. We discreetly placed the lager in a city centre pub for 3-months towards the end of last year, and we were delighted to find that it outsold three top premium lagers 2-to-1! The feedback was inspirational, so we knew we were doing the right thing by reviving it. The roll-out across venues is only really starting, but this super award from SIBA will certainly give it more momentum.”

4.5% ABV, the lager is brewed in the Midlands using classic German hops with the finest British malts for a true continental taste.  Paran Sandhu, Head Brewer for Davenports adds; “The lager is tastefully strong and full-bodied, with a light golden colour and sweetness from maize. It’s a crisp, refreshing lager, with a strong personality! We toasted its reintroduction at the launch of our latest pub The Queens Head this month, and were delighted by the response from customers, both male and female.”
