Craft Suds on the South Bank: Anspach & Hobday’s tap takeover at the Understudy at the National Theatre

Independent London craft brewery Anspach & Hobday have announced their latest tap takeover, taking place at The Understudy at the National Theatre along London’s vibrant Southbank.

The Anspach & Hobday Tap Takeover at the Understudy will take place on Thursday 3rd March from 6pm with free entry, with a mix of seven Anspach & Hobday craft beers pouring with styles ranging from Double IPAs and Pale Ales to Sours, Lagers and the increasingly popular Nitro Porter, London Black.

ABOUT THE BEERS

The Table Beer (2.7%)
Table beers are in vogue today but this sessionable style has sustained folk for centuries. Our blend of Jester and H. Blanc hops give flavours of lemon, lychee and spice. American ale yeast and pilsner malt lend a bright, clean character whilst the low-ABV keeps it light, fresh and effortlessly drinkable.

The Ordinary Bitter (3.7%)
The original session beer, Ordinary Bitters formed a cornerstone of English drinking culture. Perfectly balanced between malt sweetness and hop bitterness, our interpretation is brought up to date with the use of US Chinook hops. Delicate hop aromas of pine, spice and dark fruits are followed by a smooth, full bodied palate with notes of biscuit and caramel. Brewed with EKG and Chinook.

The Dunkel (5.8%)
Inspired by the dark lagers of Munich, The Dunkel is the perfect blend of light, fresh lagered beer and rich, dark malt. The nose is bright with noble hops, whilst the palate evolves with smooth, complex malty flavours. A delicate hop bitterness balances the malt sweetness, keeping the beer refreshing and effortlessly drinkable. The perfect lager for the winter months.

The Passionfruit Sour (3.5%)
Bright, fresh and incredibly tropical, The Passionfruit Sour is a Berlinerweisse style sour beer brewed with passionfruit juice. Wheat, malted barley and chit malt give a soft, full body to the beer, balancing out the acidity contributed by the Lactobacillus kettle souring. The intense, tropical fruit aromas and flavours of the passionfruit are complimented by a modest hopping with Ekuanot & Ella.London Black (4.4%)
London Black is our session strength Nitro Porter that takes inspiration from our flagship beer, The Porter. Creamy, smooth and truly sessionable. What better way to create an effortlessly drinkable dark beer than to brew it with nitro. The resulting creaminess and smooth mouthfeel balance perfectly with the subtle roasted notes of coffee and chocolate.

The beer brings together the rich history and heritage of London Porters, with the modern techniques of brewing nitro beers. The result is a beer that is easy drinking, without sacrificing its character

The West Coast DIPA (8.5%)
Inspired by the ruinous Double IPAs of the West Coast of America, this beer starts where The IPA left off. Summit and Columbus hops bring aromas of spice, orange and grapefruit whilst an Enigma-heavy dry hop introduces layers of ripe mango, tropical fruit and redcurrants. Dank, and resinous, a bold malt bill gives body and sweetness, all balanced by a firm hop bitterness.

The Pigeon Pale (4.5%)
This beer is to celebrate The Pigeon, our beloved bar & bottleshop in Camberwell. Amongst all the pigeons in London, there’s something special about our bowler-hat-topped bird. It’s eponymous home in Camberwell is no different: the perfect expression of what we are all about, delicious drinks served to a wonderful community.

Brewed with the team behind the bar, we are proud to produce the first in a series, The Pigeon Pale: double dry-hopped, unfined and unfiltered. Enjoy bold aromas of citrus fruit and hints of pine springing from a light crisp malt base.
