A beer first brewed in Devon two decades ago is in the running once again for one of the UK brewing industry's highest honours.
Avocet, Devon’s organic ale® brewed by Exeter Brewery, has reached the finals of the Champion Beer of Britain Awards, having been a previous runner up in 2017.
The Champion Beer of Britain award is widely regarded as the most prestigious awards in British brewing.
Run by CAMRA, the awards recognise the best cask beers produced across the UK, with finalists selected through blind judging by beer experts and enthusiasts.
Light straw in colour, the beer combines light hoppy and toffee aromas with notes of mild fruit, vanilla and citrus.
The beer has already built an impressive record in competition, previously winning SIBA Regional Gold and CAMRA Gold awards, as well as reaching the finals of the CBOB
“To see Avocet recognised again at this level is fantastic for everyone involved with the brewery. It has been one of our defining beers for many years and continues to have a very loyal following,” said Alan Collyer, Managing Director, Exeter Brewery.
“The Champion Beer of Britain awards are hugely respected within the industry, so reaching the finals is something we are extremely proud of.”
Founded in 2006 Exeter Brewery has become one of the South West’s best known independent breweries, producing a range of traditional and contemporary cask and keg beers and lagers supplied across Devon and far beyond.
The Champion Beer of Britain competition is considered one of the toughest in the industry, with beers judged over multiple rounds before finalists are selected.
