Duration Double Win at SIBA BeerX

Duration Brewing Doses wins Gold and Harvest Bier wins Silver at SIBA National Independent Beer Awards 2022

Duration Brewing took home both a Gold and a Silver in the Premium Lager and Speciality Lager categories at the SIBA National Independent Beer Awards, which took place at BeerX in Liverpool last week.

Doses a 5.1% German Pilsner is described as Sessionable classic style German Pilsner. Crisp with light floral notes. A beer for straight up refreshment when you need the world set to an uncomplicated dosage you can handle.

Doses is no stranger to attention featuring on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch with Mark Dredge and being a firm favourite to the panel of judges that included Anita Rani and Aston Merrigold https://durationbeer.com/press/doses-on-channel-4s-sunday-brunch/

“Judges had a tough job separating the pack as the standard was extremely high once again. The winners from the SIBA competition are officially the best independent craft beers in the UK, something brewers should be extremely proud of.” Roy Allkin, SIBA Chairman.

The SIBA National Independent Beer Awards judged a huge range of beers across a number of styles in separate cask, keg and bottle & can competitions. As the awards are judged mostly by brewers, industry experts and beer journalists the SIBA Independent Beer Awards are very much seen as the prestigious ‘Brewers’ choice Awards’ by the industry where Duration scooped 2 medals this year too for Best New Brewery and Best New Beer for their flagship American Pale Turtles All The Way Down.

Derek Bates, head brewer from Duration Brewing had this to say on their win.

‘We brewers judge each other’s worth off of the lagers we make – being one of the hardest beer styles to get right. To have our mainstay and first lager Doses win means everything to me. It was great that one of our seasonal lagers Harvest Bier a 4.5% Marzen picked up a medal too. We’ve been brewing both a few years now and with Doses as a core beer we are really getting to dial it in with each brew I’m finally beginning to be happy with it.’

He continues ‘Doses has a pilsner malt base grown right here in Norfolk by locals Crisp Malt, benefits from our beautiful Norfolk water treated by Voltea to emulate the softness of Bavarian mountain water, a blend of all classic noble hops in the whirlpool, and plenty of good yeast. We give it good and cold fermentation period and we spend about 6-7 weeks to make a single batch. Of course our quality brewhouse let our lagers shine too, but I’ll take credit on the recipe and championing the lesser loved and heritage beer styles, they need airtime too.’

Duration Brewing started in 2019 from their uniquely historic site at West Acre Priory after 2.5year planning and building and just months before the pandemic hit. They have gathered a lot of interest for brewing beers that connect to time, place and seasonality with a sessionable mix of fresh offerings in Pale Ales, Lagers and Belgian Beers, as well as a more farmhouse repertoire of barrel aged and mixed fermentation beers that evolve in both flavour and complexity over time. A visit to our West Norfolk brewery where they open 6 days a week with the taproom open on Friday and Saturday is well worth a visit to learn more about how they brew their farm-to-glass beers.
