International Brewing Awards deadline extended

The International Brewing Awards has extended its closing date to 18January, giving brewers and cider makers extra time to enter the competition, which takes place in February in Burton-on-Trent.

Entries have exceeded the level received for the last competition, held in 2011. However, as  two new categories have been introduced for 2013 – ciders and special hop beers –  organisers Brewing Technology Services are moving the deadline to encourage more entries.

Brewing Technology Services director Ruth Evans said, “We’re delighted with the entries received to date, which truly represent the global brewing industry in terms of diversity of style and geographical spread. Beers have been submitted from more than 40 countries.

“We have re-introduced cider to the competition this year, after a break of several decades, and also added a new Special Hop Beer class. As these are new to the competition, clearly brewers and cider makers are less aware of them, so we are extending the closing date and hope this enables more to enter.”

She added, “We have established a dedicated judging panel for ciders in the competition, so any potential entrants to this category can be confident that their product will be assessed by some of the most respected cider makers in the industry.”  The quality and robustness of the judging is one of the main strengths of the Awards, with judges recruited exclusively from currently working brewers and cider makers.

Entry to The International Brewing Awards costs £150 (plus UK VAT) per beer or cider and is free of any duty charges.  Forms can be downloaded from the website www.brewingawards.org, and returned by email to BTS.

Sponsors for the 2013 Awards are: Krones, Barth-Haas; AB Vickers;  Murphy & Son; BFBi, Institute of Brewing & Distilling; New Zealand Hops; Simply Hops; Anton Paar; Micro Matic; British Guild of Beer Writers; drink Technology + Marketing; All Party Parliamentary Beer Group; Publican’s Morning Advertiser; Briggs; M F Refrigeration; National Brewery Centre and Rankin Brothers & Sons. The Japan Craft Beer Association is once again a partner to the event and will encourage its members to enter.
