Irish Craft Breweries BRÚ Brewery and Carrig Brewing Co Announce Merger, Rebrand & Venue Portfolio

BRÚ Brewery and Carrig Brewing Co have been part of the Irish craft beer scene for almost a decade respectively. With their ranges of award-winning beers, each brewhouse has enjoyed success in the on and off trade across Ireland and overseas.

BRÚ Brewery was established in 2013 in County Meath and Carrig Brewing Co was founded in 2011 in County Leitrim. In October 2019, these breweries merged and have since undergone a complete rebrand to reflect their unified identity, refreshing their beer recipes, label designs, website and social media channels.

They will now trade under the BRÚ Brewery name and brew from their Trim brewhouse in County Meath, Ireland.

Together as BRÚ Brewery, they will continue to brew traditional Irish styles in their BRÚ Core range and modern craft styles across their new Urban Jungle series. Between both offerings, BRÚ Brewery will have a beer for all tastes, from experienced craft beer drinkers to those looking for something more familiar. Alongside both core collections, exciting seasonal releases, one-offs and collaborations will be released throughout the year.

In addition to the brewery, BRÚ will now manage a portfolio of five venues and accommodation across the country under their BRÚ Hospitality arm with a commitment to promoting a modern Irish pub and dining experience and showcasing the best of local, independent Irish produce.

Their venues include the popular Bar Rua on Clarendon St, perfectly located for the city’s shoppers, theatre-goers and sightseers. For those looking to enjoy some fresh Irish seafood and fish, there’s Catch 22 restaurant located above Bar Rua, and for anyone in need of a bed for the night, they can book into the high-end Clarendon Suites, also found above Bar Rua. Serving their local communities and visitors alike are BRÚ House in Fairview, The Bridge in Chapelizod, and Union8 Restaurant in Kilmainham. All of the venues have their own unique atmosphere, but each one is equally focused on top quality food, drink and a warm Irish welcome.

As part of the merger, former Carrig Head Brewer, Francesco Sottomano, will now oversee the entire BRÚ range in the same role. He’s working closely with the brew team to refine recipes and develop new, exciting additions to the brewery’s portfolio.

BRÚ’s commitment to getting the highest quality Irish beer into the hands of customers continues and they remain proudly Irish and independent.

Head Brewer, Francesco, describes the positive impact on the brewing process and quality: “Since the merger, we’ve worked on improving production. The potential of the brewery is huge and we’re now able to work in both a 70hl and 15hl brewhouse, allowing me to implement different brewing techniques, recipe improvements and aim for the best possible quality.”

James Dunne, CEO of BRÚ highlights the business advantages of the merger: “This merger will harness the strengths of both the Carrig and BRÚ teams and this partnership will allow us to grow our domestic and export sales. The combined pub and restaurant portfolio will strengthen our route to market for these exciting new beers and really focus on—and deliver—high quality Irish hospitality across a number of sites in Ireland.”

The new core range and Urban Jungle beers will be launched in April 2020.

The BRÚ Core range will be made up of five beers, each one a high-quality example of a loved style. The brewery has refreshed their gluten-free lager, red ale and dry stout and added a brand new IPA and pale ale.

The Urban Jungle series will include five bold and modern beers that will surprise even the most seasoned craft beer drinker. The mantra of this range encourages drinkers to be adventurous and unleash their spirit animal — whether it’s a bold lion or a wily octopus. The Osiris IPA perfectly symbolises a new beginning with its nod to the Egyptian god of rebirth. In addition to the new offerings, eagle-eyed drinkers will be delighted to find some favourite recipes that have been revived and refreshed under the Urban Jungle brand.

NB: Further information about the new beers will follow in a separate press release.
