Laura Hadland named one of the top 3 drinks writers in the UK

Shropshire-based writer and author Laura Hadland has been named as one of the top 3 drinks writers in the UK today, as the finalists for the prestigious Guild of Food Writer Awards are announced.

Following hot on the heels of her book 50 Years of CAMRA being named the best beer book in the world by Gourmand International, Laura has been recognised for three pieces of writing in particular:

  • Up The Down Escalator: Beer Nouveau in Manchester for Pellicle Magazine. Laura also took the photographs that accompany this article.
  • The Ethics of Living a More Sustainable Life for BEER Magazine (Spring 2022)
  • Big Six Rebooted for BEER Magazine (cover feature for Autumn 2022)

(CAMRA’s BEER Magazine is available online, but behind a paywall for CAMRA members. PDF copies of these articles are available on request)

These articles are just a small sample of the work that prolific writer Laura has painstakingly produced over the last 12 months. She has also had bylines in The i Paper and The Telegraph, Cibare Magazine, Ferment and Glug, alongside writing monthly columns for Vineyard Magazine and What’s Brewing. Her full portfolio is available to view online. As well as writing extensively, Laura also runs a range of public and private tours and tastings, including a monthly beer tour in Shrewsbury. Most recently she organised and led a sold-out beer tasting session on the Chef’s School stage at the Shrewsbury Food Festival.

One of the longest running and most well respected awards of its kind, the Guild of Food Writers celebrate the pinnacle of food and drink writing and broadcasting each year. Laura will find out if she has been named Drinks Writer of the Year 2023 by a panel of expert judges at the Royal Institute in London on 6th September.
