The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) is 40 years old in Jersey this year and as a special birthday present Liberation Brewery has produced an ale to help beer lovers celebrate the occasion.
CAMRA Jersey Ruby Ale is brewed using Maris Otter and carared malt to create an easy drinking crisp beer, packed with Columbus, Chinook and Bramling Cross hops producing a fruity taste with a fresh citrus aroma. Pat Dean of Liberation Brewery came up with the recipe after talking to CAMRA Jersey about the style of beer they would like.
The beer will be officially launched at this year’s CAMRA Jersey Real Ale Festival, held at the People’s Park over three days from Thursday 15th September. Now in its 28th year, the Festival has grown from around 30 beers to over 100 ales and ciders from all over the British Isles and attracts up to 5,000 people.
Dwayne Palmer, Chairman of CAMRA in Jersey said, “The beer festival started out as a fairly small affair, serving a limited number of ales at the Hotel Angleterre in Gloucester Street. Now it is a huge event featuring a vast array of beers and ciders for people to try, as well as wines and foreign beers.”
Tim Hubert of Liberation Brewery said, “CAMRA is one of the most important bodies representing the interests of brewers and beer drinkers alike. It not only champions traditional, flavoursome beers but it also promotes the importance of good local pubs at the heart of the community. These values are at the core of what we do at Liberation Brewery in Jersey. We wanted to help the local branch of CAMRA celebrate its milestone birthday with this special beer and we are sure ale lovers are going to really enjoy it.”
As part of the birthday celebrations a ticket-only party is being held at People’s Park on the evening of Wednesday 14th September in an ‘Oktoberfest’ style, with guests able to enjoy a full range of beers, ciders and soft drinks as well as a buffet and live entertainment.
CAMRA is an independent, voluntary organisation campaigning for real ale, community pubs and consumer rights and has over 175,000 members worldwide. Since the campaign launched in 1972 it has been described as the most successful consumer campaign in Europe and the number of different cask-conditioned ales produced in the UK has grown to over 11,000.
