Magic in the Wold! – Adnams unveils new collaboration brew with Magic Rock

Fergus Fitzgerald, Head Brewer, Adnams.

Adnams, the award-winning brewer, has unveiled its latest collaboration beer, ‘The Herbalist’, brewed together with Magic Rock Brewing Co.

Brewed in Southwold by Adnams’ master brewer, Fergus Fitzgerald and Stuart Ross, head brewer at Magic Rock, this limited edition beer is a hoppy brew, made with spicy Saison yeast. Using a mix of bittering Centennial hops and dry hopped with Mosaic, Citra and Vic Secret Hops, The Herbalist is full of complex spicy and fruity flavours, and fantastic notes of lemon, mango and pineapple too. This pale ale also features a number of herbs including verbena and lemon thyme, pineapple sage, a herb much-loved by North American hummingbirds, and pineapple weed to add aromatic flavours.

The Herbalist was unveiled at The Pelt Trader, a craft beer and pizza bar located in the City of London on 26 March. To celebrate the launch, the Pelt Trader hosted a “Meet the brewer” event, where the brewers Fergus and Stuart participated in a Q&A session and visitors also had the opportunity to sample the beer too.

Commenting on the new beer, Adnams Head Brewer Fergus Fitzgerald, said: “I met the brewers from Magic Rock in April 2014 at the World Beer Cup in Denver. We share a mutual respect of each other’s beers and brewing styles and because of this we were keen to create a collaborative brew together. The guys at Magic Rock were keen to create a Saison beer, a pale ale with spicy notes and I was especially keen to experiment with pineapple weed, also known as wild chamomile.

“Bold and unassuming, the fruity flavours of this beer mean it’s the perfect accompaniment to a spring cheese board or succulent roast chicken.”

Stuart Ross, Head Brewer at Magic Rock commented: “As brewers, Fergus and I share the same values, and both Magic Rock and Adnams are especially passionate about flavour, so a collaboration beer was a natural progression. Having met in Denver, Colorado, which is known as the “centennial state”, we were keen to celebrate this connection and chose Centennial hops for the recipe. The Herbalist, is very much a melding of minds and as a result the final brew includes some very distinctive and unusual ingredients resulting in a quality and extremely tasty beer.”

The Herbalist is available from April 2015 for a limited time in five-litre mini casks from adnams.co.uk and in selected Adnams Shops. For more information, visit: http://www.adnams.co.uk.
