Man Beer Con – Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th October 2014

Victoria Baths, Hathersage Rd, Manchester.

“At Indy Man Beer Con the stars of UK and international craft brewing (some idolised like rock gods) man their own bars and treat their followers to various one-off, experimental and rare examples of their work.” Tony Naylor, The Guardian

Independent Manchester Beer Convention (Indy Man Beer Con/IMBC) is a world-class showcase for the best breweries from the UK and beyond. Returning to the stunning surrounds of the Grade II listed, architectural gem Victoria Baths for it’s 3rd year, running from Thursday 9th October to Sunday 12th October, IMBC brings together the most progressive, forward thinking breweries from across the UK, Europe and USA for a multi-sensory, headlong, hop-forward beer extravaganza.

The one-of-a-kind beer festival Independent Manchester Beer Convention (Indy Man Beer Con/IMBC) is close to selling out, with Friday (evening) and both Saturday sessions now completely SOLD OUT in record time. A small number of tickets are up for grabs for Thursday Evening, Friday Day and an extended Sunday Session but are flying out fast!

IMBC will have more than eighty taps serving up the finest cask and keg beers. There will be an array of local, national and international brewers mingling and pouring their own beer, taking part in secret tastings, pop-up beer talks plus one-off beers, as well as sours and barrel-aged ales made especially for the Convention as well as beer-matched meals from Masterchef finalist Jackie Kearney aka The Hungry Gecko, specially curated live music from Hey! Manchester and Aficionado and a plethora of the best street food traders including Honest Crust pizza, burgers from Almost Famous, Diamond Dogs’ delectable hotdogs, Indian street food from Chaat Cart, the Mexican flavours of Margo & Rita and mouthwatering pie’s from Great North Pie Company.

Festival organiser Jonny Heyes explains “The beer world is a dynamic industry, more women and young people are drinking beer and it’s losing it’s stuffy, old man image, yet something was lacking in Britain’s beer festivals so we thought we’d change that.”

With different beers and events every day, each session offers something new including ensuring that even if you have one of the SOLD OUT full fat tickets your experience will be as varied as the beers you taste. There are still a few surprises in store so keep up to date by following @IndyManBeerCon on Twitter and join us for the UK’s beer event of the year.

Last year’s event SOLD OUT months in advance, welcoming over 3000 attendees who mingled with 47 brewers, there serving beers and answering questions. Tickets start at £10.

NOTES TO EDITORS

Independent Manchester Beer Convention is brought to you by the team behind Common, Port Street Beer House & The Beagle. IMBC came about through being inspired by the UK’s craft beer movement and frustration that beer festivals in their current form weren’t really representative of this exciting and dynamic part of the industry. We wanted to put on an event that has amazing beer (obviously) but was open-minded, inclusive and modern.

Festival organiser Jonny Heyes explains “The beer world is a dynamic industry, more women and young people are drinking beer and it’s losing it’s stuffy, old man image, yet something was lacking in Britain’s beer festivals so we thought we’d change that.”

The Trade Session for Independent Manchester Beer Convention will take place on Friday 10th October from 11am to 4:30pm. Trade and press tickets will be available free of charge to members of the press and drinks industry. Due to the capacity of Victoria Baths trade and press tickets are limited to a maximum of 2 per company. Email trade@indymanbeercon.co.uk or press@indymanbeercon.co.uk to apply for tickets.

Quotes from previous years

“A joyous event held in the crumbling splendour of the Victoria Baths” – Fiona Beckett, The Guardian

“Indy Man Beer Con has rewritten the rules on what a British beer festival looks like” – Will Hawkes, Financial Times

“If you love beer and/or historic architecture be sure to go at least once – if not every year” – Sophie Atherton, Beer Sommelier

“The most forward thinking beer festival seen in the UK, combining the most exciting beers from the UK, served by the brewers themselves, in an amazing venue.” – Evening Brews

“Nothing like this has ever been done in the UK, a lot of UK festivals go for volume and not overall quality, whereas this is all about picking the best possible beers even though there is a smaller number of them. This is about intimacy, it’s about atmosphere and creating the right sort of vibe to enjoy the beer in.” – Summer Wine Brewery
