MOORHOUSE’S STIRS UP A CAULDRON OF FUN DELIGHTS

Moorhouse’s – Burnley’s much acclaimed ‘Pendle Witches’ brewer – is rolling out a series of events to boost the brewery as a bewitching top entertainment venue for the Lancashire town.

Comedy Club nights and Curry Evenings will build on the success of open nights and beer festivals already held at the three year old multi-million pound brewery complex in
Accrington Road.*

The programme is launched with a Curry Night on Tuesday 11 March in partnership with students from Accrington & Rossendale College Catering Department. They will cook up three styles of curry to enjoy with the new Moorhouse’s IPA (India Pale Ale) – the perfect style of tipple for spicy food – and other selected cask ales.

On Friday 28 March the brewery hosts the inaugural ‘Gigglewitch Comedy Club’ night in the spacious Cauldron Bar. First up is comedian Seymour Mace, who has appeared with Johnny Vegas in BBC’s ‘Ideal’ show and was voted ‘City Life Comedian of the Year’ – following in the footsteps of top names John Kay, Alan Carr and John Bishop.

Rob Rouse will also take the stage. His TV appearances include ‘8 Out Of 10 Cats, ‘The Friday Night Project’ and the ‘Comedy Shuffle with Rob Rouse’. Admission is £15 and the show starts at 8-30pm. Tickets for both events are available by ringing 01282 422864.

The award winning brewer has also announced dates for its successful ‘Friends of Moorhouse’s’ evenings. These free to attend events run on the first Friday of each month until November – the first on 7 March – with a range of ales available, including the months’ specials such as the IPA for March and White Mist in April.  Membership of the free Friends ‘club’ offers discounts on special events, room bookings and the ‘Perfect Spell’ clothing.

As part of the new brewery complex Moorhouse’s created the Cauldron bar and ‘The Witches Rooms’ hospitality suite to provide a prestigious venue for special events, corporate meetings and private celebrations. Brewery tour evenings are also offered to groups.

David Grant, Moorhouse’s managing director, said: “our stand up comedy nights, will bring top line entertainment to
Burnley. And the curry evenings offer a splendid dining experience to enjoy with our excellent casks ales.

“Since launch last year, the Friends of Moorhouse’s nights in the bar have proved very popular while our function rooms have seen many private celebrations and business meetings – showing there is a need for this type of venue locally.

Moorhouse’s is one of few
UK brewers to be licensed as a wedding venue and offers a full nuptial package. For further information on the brewery events or private room bookings please contact Stuart Thompson, commercial manager, on 01282 422864.

Moorhouse’s background

*In 2011 the new £4.2m complex replaced a Victorian built brewery in Accrington Road, Burnley to treble production capacity to 1000 brewer’s barrels a week.

The internationally acclaimed five core brands are: Premier Bitter (3.7%) and Pride of Pendle (4.1%) with Blond Witch (4.5%), Black Cat (3.4%), and the premier Pendle Witches Brew (5.1%) paying tribute to the legend of the ill-fated witches who roamed Pendle Hill near Burnley in the early 17th century.

Moorhouse’s has won more awards than any comparable brewer, including Black Cat voted Camra Supreme Champion Beer of Britain 2000. Last yearBlack Cat also took gold in the Standard Strength Cask-Conditioned Ale category of the Brewing Industry International Awards (BIIA).

Founder William Moorhouse established his drinks manufacturing business in Accrington Road, Burnley, and Lancashire in 1865. Originally it produced mineral waters and then low strength hop bitters for Temperance Movement bars. Moorhouse’s began full strength brewing in the 1970s and in the eighties Manchester businessman Bill Parkinson bought the then ailing brewery ‘because he liked the beer’. Now, Moorhouse’s directly supplies several hundred pubs throughout the North West, Midlands and Yorkshire, while distributing nationally via leading wholesalers and major pub chains.
