Neptune Brewery x Ladies That Beer: International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day release and Women in Beer Celebration

North Liverpool-based Neptune Brewery has brewed its fifth International Women’s Collab Brew beer in collaboration with Ladies That Beer, an inclusive social and educational group for women to enjoy beer, and with women across the North West hospitality industry.

The IWCBD beer is named The Hyades (pronounced HI-A-DEEZ) who are a mythological sisterhood of nymphs who bring the rain – the giver of life. It is a 5.3% Peach and Apricot Saison, spiced with Grains of Paradise. Using 100% natural fruit puree, the soft sweetness and subtle tartness of the peach and apricot are balanced perfectly by the gentle black pepper spice and citrus aromatics of the Grains of Paradise. It is classically dry on the finish with a gentle spritz.

Julie O’ Grady is not only the co-owner of Neptune Brewery, but also the founder of Ladies That Beer. Established in 2015, the group meets monthly in pubs and bars across Liverpool and beyond, and has the aim to encourage women to drink and appreciate beer – learning about the different styles and how they’re made. Julie speaks about what this 2022 IWCBD edition means to her:

“Being able to get everyone together to brew again after what’s been such a long hiatus is wonderful. This is why we wanted this year’s beer to celebrate the union of the collective and its united power to bring positivity – hence the name that reflects this feeling of sisterhood.”

Emma Wheston is a long-standing member of Ladies That Beer:

“It was great to have the opportunity to get so involved in the brewing process with other ladies, as well as being able to ask lots of questions without feeling foolish. It’s given me a much greater insight into how beer is brewed and I can’t wait to try it! I’m sure it will taste that much sweeter knowing I’ve had a hand in making it.”

Women in Beer Celebration

On Thursday 21st April, Neptune will be hosting a celebratory evening at The Keystone on Hope Street in Liverpool, with The Hyades taking centre stage. Aimed at both beer lovers and the beer curious alike, ticket holders can expect a fun and informal tasting hosted by Neptune’s Julie O’Grady and Chess Slattery – Beer Sommelier and Certified Cicerone®. It includes five women-brewed beers and a specially created light bite. Sales & Beer Experience Manager Chess Slattery talks about their plans:

“We hope that, alongside the Ladies That Beer members and Keystone regulars, we can encourage those who are perhaps new to beer to join us for this event. We plan to create an open and judgement-free atmosphere so folks feel free to ask any questions they may have about beer, brewing and anything else that comes to mind! Julie and I love sharing our beer knowledge and hope we can spread that enthusiasm and celebrate all women in beer – whether they’re brewers, stockists or imbibers!”

Tickets are priced £20 per person and include a taster of five beers, plus a special tasting dish created by in-house Tempo Kitchen. The event starts at 7.30pm and tickets can be purchased by popping into The Keystone or giving them a call on 0151 708 6591.

The Hyades is on sale in keg and 330ml cans to trade, with stockists across the country, and cans are available from the Neptune Taproom or directly on their online shop:

About Neptune Brewery:

Neptune Brewery has been brewing modern beers, inspired by tradition, in North Liverpool since 2015 and are proudly independent.

Their beers are naturally conditioned and all the “uns” – that’s unfiltered, unpasteurised and unfined – ensuring the greatest flavour in each brew. It also means their beers are vegan friendly as they want as many people as possible to enjoy them.

They brew a core range of popular and accessible beers accompanied by an eclectic and ever-changing rotation of seasonals, rarities and collaborations – available in cask, keg and cans.
