North bar heads in new direction

Poneering Leeds-based bar group North Bar are due to open another new outlet in Leeds with ‘Preston’ opening in Oakwood, LS8 on 21st August, taking the company’s total to 6 venues.

This follows hot on the heels of ‘North Bar Social’ which opened it’s doors in Otley on 19th June 2013, the company’s first move out of Leeds and also their first freehold.

‘Preston’ takes it’s name from a former shopkeeper at the site. T.I.Preston traded as a chemist here and a mosaic doorstep bearing his name still greets visitors to this day. Both Preston and North Bar Social are small, neighborhood venues taking the operational blueprint from the group’s existing two suburban sites Further North and Alfred.

Opened in 1997, North Bar has carved its name as a leading establishment within the UK beer scene.  The parent company prides itself on excellent customer service, friendly knowledgeable staff and great drinks including a range of bespoke offerings created in collaboration with some of the industry’s best; ale brewed in collaboration with Kirkstall Brewery in Leeds, pilsner brewed with Lindeboom in Holland, and coffee roasted in partnership with Bolling/Grumpy Mule and Laynes Espresso.
North Bar is notably renowned for introducing a number of global beers to the UK market, including leaders of international craft brewing Erdinger, Sierra Nevada and Brooklyn Lager. Further still, it acts as a flagship bar for rarer delights such as Dogfish Head, Duchesse de Bourgogne and Tipopils.

John Gyngell, Director of North Bar Ltd, says: “We’ve had a fantastic year with the success of the other North Bar sites and our recent opening in Otley. As always we aim to immerse ourselves in our locations, this reflects our broader, long range interest in being an active stakeholder in all the communities we operate in.”

Christian Townsley, Director of North Bar Ltd, says: “Oakwood is a beautiful suburb in Leeds in a remarkable location with the vast, leafy Roundhay Park on the doorstep and a rich historical heritage.  We’re delighted to be bringing the local residents a North Bar venue offering the usual excellent service and wonderful drinks our customers expect.”
