North Brewing Co were thrilled to be awarded Champion Keg beer in the UK at last night’s SIBA Independent Beer Awards for their Triple Fruited Gose brewed with Mango and Guava.
The awards are judged by a group of brewers and industry experts, and range across a variety of styles and formats including cask, keg and bottle / canned.
North have built an incredible reputation for their Triple Fruited Gose series, having released twenty five different iterations of the style since first brewing it in Spring 2018. The beer is a modern take on a German style sour beer, traditionally brewed with a touch of salt and coriander for flavour. The winning version is brewed with sweet fleshy mango, and both pink and white guava.
The beer can be bought directly from North’s webshop (https://shop.northbrewing.com/), its eight venues across Leeds and North Yorkshire, and its taprooms in Birmingham and Manchester. The beer is also stocked by a selection of independent bars and bottle shops across the country.
Christian Townsley, co-founder says “We’ve worked really hard to get the balance in this beer perfectly between the slight sweetness that the salt brings out, and the sourness and fruit of the beer itself, and I’m just blown away — I can’t believe we’ve won!”
“It’s been a really tough year for our industry, and this award will mean so much to everybody at the brewery, and it’s not just the brewing team. The amount of care that goes in from brewing, to packaging, to warehousing, distribution, the marketing team. It’s a huge pat on the back for everyone at the brewery.”
SIBA competitions chair, Anneli Baxter, said: “The quality of entries into these awards genuinely does go from strength to strength each year, and 2023 was no exception, with some superb beers across the board.
“To win at the regional competitions is tough. To then go on to win your national category even harder. And to take home the overall national gold is almost impossible, being named the best beer in the whole of the UK by an expert panel of judges. Huge congratulations and well done to all of this year’s winners.”

About North
North was founded by John Gyngell and Christian Townsley in Leeds in 1997. They opened their original venue, North Bar, with the shared vision of blending global craft beer and local breweries, interesting wines and spirits, great quality food, and eclectic music and art. North Bar quickly became renowned for its alternative approach, quirky style and excellent, friendly service.
They have since grown to eight venues in Leeds and the surrounding area: from Preston Bar nestled in leafy Oakwood, to the cycling hub at North Bar Social in Otley, to their slick city centre taproom on Sovereign Square. With growth has come a string of awards and accolades from the likes of Imbibe, The Observer, The Publican Awards and the Society of Independent Brewers. In 2015 they founded North Brewing Co, a global brewery with an independent heart, born out of a love of food, drink and hospitality.
In 2022 North took their first steps outside their home county, opening their ninth venue in Birmingham, followed closely by a tenth in Manchester. Beyond a passion for great beer, North is built on creating communities of like-minded people, offering exciting and innovative spaces that are inclusive, friendly and fun.
