North gets a new look: A brand shakeup with a legacy in Leeds Craft Beer

North, a pioneer in the craft beer industry that was voted ’Brewery of the Year’ last month at Brewers Congress, is thrilled to announce a brand shakeup that reflects its deep-rooted heritage in Leeds and celebrates 26 years of innovation and creativity within the global craft beer industry. Renowned for their iconic can designs and unparalleled commitment to quality, North is now set to embark on the next chapter of their journey under a refreshed logo which better reflects the North name they have always been referred to.

As one of the first breweries to introduce art-focused designs on beer cans, taking inspiration from eclectic music, science fiction and mid-century modernist reference points, their artistic ingenuity has set North apart as a design-focused brewery for years and they have been humbled to see numerous breweries follow their lead, adopting a similar approach.

This month, North celebrates the 8th anniversary of its brewery, a milestone that marks the perfect moment to revitalise the brand’s identity and continue their commitment to innovation as they aim to remain at the forefront of the industry. As craft beer has evolved, North has recognised the need to adapt with it.

Their new logo and can designs are fluid whilst also solidifying their identity, ensuring customers recognise North, whether behind the bar, on a supermarket shelf or in a bottle shop in Japan. There have been many variations of their name over the past 26 years, but they have always been known and loved in the industry as just North, which has been a driving force behind the brand shakeup. In an effort to make their beers more accessible, North’s new can labels also feature descriptions of the beers, educating and guiding customers on the journey through North’s diverse offerings.

James Ockelford, Refold, explained: “When North (Bar) first opened in 1997 it was simply referred to as North. The brewery was always considered to be part of the North family, but as we’ve grown (far beyond Leeds, into new markets, new countries, to brand new audiences) our identity was starting to lose clarity. Now marks the perfect occasion to go back to our roots and remember that although we’ve changed many things throughout these years, we have always been North”

North invites everyone to embrace the future with the same passion and dedication that has defined this iconic brewery for over two decades. The brand shakeup signifies a commitment to innovation, accessibility, and maintaining their position as a leader in the craft beer industry.
