Pellicle Magazine “Food Magazine Of The Year” Finalists!

Manchester-Based, Reader Funded Independent Magazine Named As Finalist For “Food Magazine Or Section” Award At The Guild Of Food Writers Awards 2024.

On behalf of our entire team Pellicle is overjoyed to announce that our magazine has been named as a finalist at the Guild of Food Writers Awards 2024. In our category for “Food Magazine or Section” our fellow finalists are Food by National Geographic Traveller, and Feast from The Guardian.

The winners of each award will be announced on Wednesday the 12th of June at The Guild of Food Writers Awards Ceremony, held in London.

Pellicle is a free-to-read magazine, published online. All contributors are paid, and the magazine is solely funded by Patreon subscribers and sponsors Loughran Brewers Select.

That Pellicle’s brand of independent food and drink writing is being recognised by The Guild of Food Writers, one of the most prestigious awards in food writing and broadcasting, is testament to the hard work and dedication of our contributors, and our small team. Collectively our focus is on producing features that provide insight into the world of food and drink, be they celebratory, philosophical, or critical. Our goal is only ever to ensure our next feature is as good as our last.

We are hugely honoured to be considered alongside two internationally-renowned titles, and are thrilled for Pellicle, and our amazing contributing writers, to be given this incredible level of recognition. It has always been our dream to bring our brand of high quality food and drink writing to the fore—writing that showcases the diversity, personal connection, and joy within the things we eat and drink, and never shies away from the difficult conversations.

Pellicle is currently staffed by a team of four—Matthew Curtis, Founder and Editor-in-Chief;

Katie Mather; Associate Editor; Lily Waite, Associate Editor; and Jonathan Hamilton, Founder and Editor-at-Large.

Founder and Editor Matthew Curtis says: “This is an incredible feeling and a testament to the hard work of our contributors and our small editorial team. We are taking this as an absolute win, but the real winners are beer, pubs and our readers who keep our mag going through their support.”

Associate Editor Katie Mather says: “We are incredibly proud to have our work at the front and centre of the publishing and media world, and want to thank The Food Writers Guild for choosing Pellicle as a finalist, and for giving such a significant platform to a unique, independent publisher led by writers, not advertisers or critics. Our reach is limited by our funds, but our aspirations are not. Optimism Forever!”
