Cornwall-based Penpont Brewery has just opened a new shop called ‘The Beer Cellar’ in Launceston. As well as stocking its own award-winning brands on draught, in bottles and in re-usable containers, the company will also be showcasing other local, national and international beers.
Opening the shop is the latest in a series of developments for Penpont which was first established four and a half years ago by young entrepreneur Joe Thomson. In re
cent months, the 26 year old has qualified as one of only 36 beer sommeliers worldwide and begun exporting his beer to both Canada and Russia. Consumers are now also able to buy direct from the brewery online.
“We brew our beers in a converted milking parlour near Altarnun on the edge of Bodmin Moor,” said Joe. “We can’t sell direct to customers there so opening a shop was the logical step forward. We’ve been very successful in selling to distributors and pubs but I’m very keen to build our relationship with the people drinking and enjoying not just our beers but some of the other high quality ales around.
“I’m also looking at the possibility of running beer and cheese tasting evenings and at teaming up with local restaurants to do food and drink matching events.”
‘The Beer Cellar’ is situated in 3 Chings Alley Launceston. Opening times are Monday-Wednesday 10am-4pm, Thursday-Friday 10am-6pm and Saturday 10am to 2pm. Beer sampling is available. For more information, visit www.beer-cellar.co.uk and www.penpontbrewery.co.uk
