Record breaking National CAMRA AGM & Members’ Weekend coming to Norwich in April

The national Members of CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, have already broken the record of pre-registration for the AGM and Members’ Weekend with over 1300 Members’ due to attend the event at St Andrew’s Hall in Norwich. Members from across the UK, and even overseas, will head to Norwich for the long weekend of 19th to 21st April, although some are expected to stay in the area even longer.

1,357 Members had pre-registered at the time of the deadline, which is the highest figure CAMRA have ever reached with four weeks to go until the start of the CAMRA AGM and Members’ Weekend. Sheffield’s AGM & Member’s Weekend has now the second highest pre-registration closing figure, which was 1,293, two years ago.

CAMRA is an independent, voluntary organisation campaigning for real ale, community pubs and consumer rights and the Members’ Weekend and AGM is where CAMRA members discuss the future policy and direction of the organisation.

Many Norwich pubs will now need to prepare for a larger influx of real ale fans, as well as cider and perry drinkers, with many pubs intending to have mini-beer festivals themselves. Also six Norfolk breweries, and two cider producers, will be welcoming Members’ to tour their facilities and taste some of their range of products. Most of the tours were fully booked within a matter of days of being opened for bookings. Emma Pinder, the Local CAMRA Organising Committee Publicity Manager said “with many local hotels also being fully booked over the Weekend for many months, and coming shortly after the CAMRA’s successful campaign to the Government to end the Beer Duty Escalator, the CAMRA Weekend will be a welcome boost to the Norfolk economy and raise the profile of the Fine City of Norwich”.

The beer list for the Members’ Bar, which will be held in Blackfriars’ Hall and includes a wide range of the real ales, cider and perry available locally, is now available on the local AGM website: http://www.agmnorwich2013.org.uk/home/members-bar.
