Round Corner Brewing Wins Four Golds At Brewing Industry ‘Oscars’

Brewery Awarded Five Medals At International Brewing & Cider Awards 2024

MELTON MOWBRAY, 25th March 2024.

Round Corner Brewing has been awarded an outstanding four golds and one silver medal at the International Brewing & Cider Awards 2024, following three days of judging from an international panel of 38 judges from around the world.

With the awards being hailed as the ‘Oscars of beer’ it is a highly revered competition, with a rich 138-year history of championing the world’s best brewers and cider-makers. Over the three days of judging at the Depot Mayfield in Manchester, UK between 19th-21st March, there were a total of 115 medals awarded to beers and ciders from across the world. With winners from Cambodia, China, Czech Republic, Finland, Norway, Taiwan, Thailand, USA, and the UK.

The five Round Corner Brewing beers which were awarded medals were Drovers – Hazy Session IPA, Frisby – Lager, Social Club – Nitro Stout, and Underwater Song – Baltic Porter.

Categories are broken down into classes defined by ABV, with only one beer awarded a gold, a silver, or a bronze in each class, making a medal even more impressive to win.

Underwater Song – Baltic Porter is one of Round Corner Brewing’s Market Edition beers and it achieved an incredible two gold medals in two separate classes. Both golds were awarded in the International Strong Beer Competition, with one gold awarded in Class 1 for Strong Lager and the second gold in Class 3 for Strong Dark Beer.

Social Club – Nitro Stout is a Core Range beer for the brewery and is brewed all year-round. It’s already developed a strong customer base and being awarded a gold medal is affirmation of its popularity. Social Club was awarded a gold in the International Dark Beer Competition, Class 2 for Dark beer 3.8% – 4.7%.

The fourth gold medal was awarded to Drovers – Hazy Session IPA, another Core Range beer. This medal came in the International Keg Ale Competition, Class 1 for Ale 2.9% – 4.4%.

Wrapping up the successful haul of medals was Frisby – Lager, which won a silver medal in the International Smallpack Lager Competition, Class 1 for Lager 2.9% – 4.4%. This is another Core Range beer and shows off the high level of consistency across all its beers.

This impressive achievement by the Melton Mowbray brewery continues from its recent success of five medals at the 2024 European Beer Challenge, which is a true example of its maintenance of world class brewing standards.

Round Corner Brewing still has a chance of being announced as one of 12 trophy winners when all medals are presented at the Official Awards Ceremony on 1st May 2024 at The Guildhall in London.

In 2021, at the last International Brewing & Cider Awards, the brewery was awarded the Trophy for its Steeplechase – Pale Ale, following a gold medal in the International Smallpack Ale, Class 1 for Smallpack Ale 2.9% – 4.4% category.

For Round Corner Brewing the achievement of winning five medals at the brewing industry’s ‘Oscars’ is a huge achievement and adds to an ever-impressive history of awards since the brewery’s inception in 2018.

Round Corner Brewing Co-Founder & COO, Colin Paige said: “This is the Oscars of beer and performing at such a high standard against our peers shows how much we live our philosophy of craft beer being all about the relentless pursuit of perfection. We love these awards because it’s difficult to be awarded a medal, and so winning one makes it all the more special.”

Round Corner Brewing Head Brewer, Lara Lopes said: “Quality and consistency drives every decision we make in the brewery. We never rest on our laurels and are constantly working hard to make the best beer we can, so it is lovely when this is verified in one of the best beer awards in the world; what an amazing brewing team we have here at Round Corner Brewing.”

Round Corner Brewing’s Co-Founder & CEO, Combie Cryan said: “What an incredible achievement this is for the brewery. Ever since Colin (Paige) and I founded the brewery in 2018 we set out on a mission to brew a broad range of beer styles and within those styles to produce some of the best examples of those beers in the world.

“For us, these medals confirm that we’re sticking to our mission of the relentless pursuit of perfection, and by being awarded five medals it’s proof our brewing team continue to maintain world class brewing standards. The next step for us is to get these beers into more drinker’s hands and show them why our beer is uncommonly good!”
