Round Corner Brewing’s Drovers Hazy Session Ipa Named Best Keg Ale in the World

Brewery Awarded The International Keg Ale Trophy At International Brewing & Cider Awards 2024

MELTON MOWBRAY, 3rd May 2024.

Round Corner Brewing has been awarded the impressive International Keg Ale Trophy at the International Brewing & Cider Awards 2024 for its Core Range beer, Drovers Hazy Session IPA.

The prestigious awards ceremony was held at the Guildhall, London on Wednesday 1st May where it crowned 13 trophy winners – ten beers and three ciders – with Round Corner Brewing’s Drovers being one of them.

The awards are hailed as the ‘Oscars of beer’ and is a highly revered competition, with a rich 138-year history of championing the world’s best brewers and cider-makers.

Round Corner Brewing beat competition from across the world, with medal winners from Cambodia, China, Czech Republic, Finland, Norway, Taiwan, Thailand, USA, and the UK.

Drovers Hazy Session IPA’s trophy win is arguably the highest accolade an Ale can win in the world, alongside the International Small Pack Ale Trophy. And with this win comes further appreciation of the brewery’s maintenance of world class brewing standards.

This beer is a crisp and juicy thirst slaker that doesn’t hang around. Generously dry-hopped with Citra, Mosaic & Simcoe and suffused with breezy, tropical notes.

In 2021, at the last awards, Round Corner Brewing’s Steeplechase Pale Ale claimed the trophy for the International Small Pack Ale, meaning that at two consecutive awards the Melton Mowbray based brewery has been awarded these huge honours.

Earlier in the year, at the International Brewing & Cider Awards judging, 115 gold, silver and bronze medal winners were announced, with Round Corner Brewing coming away with five medals, which were awarded to Drovers – Hazy Session IPA, Frisby – Lager, Social Club – Nitro Stout, and Underwater Song – Baltic Porter.

At the Guildhall yesterday, these medals were given out, with both of Round Corner Brewing Co-Founders, Combie Cryan and Colin Paige in attendance, alongside the award-winning brewing team.

This impressive achievement by the Melton Mowbray brewery continues a successful start to 2024 and they will look to continue to brew internationally awarded beer.

Round Corner Brewing Co-Founder & COO, Colin Paige said: “We are delighted to win a trophy at these awards. It is no easy feat to win a medal at these awards, due to there only being 1 x gold, 1 x silver and 1 x bronze in each category. So, to win a Gold is an amazing accolade. However, to go on and win a Trophy means Drovers has been blind judged by our brewing peers to be the best from a range of gold medal winning beers. This is a big deal for us and we thoroughly enjoyed celebrating our success in London yesterday.”

Round Corner Brewing Head Brewer, Lara Lopes said: “We’re beyond proud of our performance at this year’s International Brewing Awards, where we won five medals and the esteemed International Keg Ale Trophy for our core range Drovers Hazy Session IPA.

“The International Brewing Awards is the world’s most venerable international beer competition, setting a high standard for excellence in brewing, making this recognition all the more significant for us. It’s a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion that our team at Round Corner Brewing brings to each brew. Being acknowledged at this prestigious event reaffirms our commitment to crafting exceptional beers, and we are very grateful for this recognition.”

Round Corner Brewing’s Co-Founder & CEO, Combie Cryan said: “What an amazing achievement for the brewery to come away with a trophy as the world’s best keg ale for Drovers Hazy Session IPA.

“As a team we adore Drovers, and we know our customers are huge supporters of this beer. However, when you’re awarded something as prestigious as this trophy and beating worldwide competition, that is truly incredible. We’re going to celebrate this achievement with our incredible team and also celebrate this beer with all our stockists and adoring customers!”

Following Round Corner Brewing’s success, it’s not just the brewery who are ecstatic to see Drovers Hazy Session IPA succeed.

The Filling Station, St Ives’ Owner Matt Kelly said: “Drovers is such a super crushable hazy session IPA and is perfect for summer sessions in the sun. Quite frankly, we’re surprised it’s taken the beer judging world this long to cotton on to what our sales figures tell us. Drovers is a winner.”

Melton Mowbray Livestock Market’s Lead Auctioneer, Scott Ruck said: “Drovers gets its name from my team who like nothing better than a pint of two after an exhausting day moving livestock around Melton Mowbray Livestock Market. There is nowhere better to enjoy a pint of Drovers than at Round Corner Brewing’s Taproom at Melton Mowbray Market.”
