Saltaire announces £100k investment to further growth plans

From July and August, Saltaire Brewery is expanding its team with four new recruits and increasing brewing capacity by 30 per cent to meet the growing demand for its hand crafted ales in the North of England, and increasingly beyond its heartland of West Yorkshire.

Tony Gartland, Managing Director, sees this next stage in the development of the Brewery as a step change in its ambition to be one of the leading Breweries in the North of England, “We’re very proud of what we’ve achieved so far but to develop and grow our reputation for tasty, quality ales we recognise the need to invest more in building our team and infrastructure.

“Growth in the premium ale sector is strong and we’ve grown ahead of the market. In the last couple of years our bottled beer sales have doubled, and we’ve secured an increasing number of permanent listings of Saltaire Blonde, our best-selling cask ale. Capacity is a challenge, so as well as growing our team, we’ve invested £100,000 in our production infrastructure which will enable us to increase our capacity by 30 per cent by the end of this year.”

The company has strengthened its board of directors with two key promotions from within the team. Derek Todd will become Director of Brewing and Ewen Gordon, Sales Director. This recognises their significant contribution to the Brewery’s current success.

The Brewery has also appointed a new Finance Manager and an extra member to its distribution team. They will shortly be joined by Phil Riddle as Sales Manager, who brings 10 years’ trade experience gained in London and the South East.

The brewing team is strengthened with the appointment of David Sanders, an award-winning brewer who pioneered micro-brewing in Yorkshire. With more than 20 years’ experience and a reputation for innovation he is a welcome addition to our successful team of five brewers.

Tony adds, “This investment in people, processes and infrastructure will see us on our way to achieving our aim of becoming one of the leading breweries in the North of England.”
