TCG’s ops team to boost Cancer Research UK fundraising

Managed pub and bar group TCG’s pledge to raise £70,000 for Cancer Research UK will be  boosted next week when the company’s operations team completes a sponsored tour of all 16 of its central London pubs and bars, taking part in a range of fundraising events in the  process.

Chief operating officer Nigel Wright is leading his team of five regional operations managers around the capital on foot, by ‘Boris bike’, Air Emirates cable car, river bus, pogo sticks and other forms of transport. The challenge starts on Wednesday 25th September at Henry’s Café Bar on Piccadilly and finishes on the Thursday evening at the Tattershall Castle, TCG’s flagship pub moored at Embankment, which is staging a ‘Floating Comedy Show’ as a finale to raise more funds for charity.

TCG has raised around £45,000 for Cancer Research UK since February, with pubs and bars throughout the estate embracing the challenge with enthusiasm.  Team members have completed ‘Race for Life’ runs, marathons, biking, climbing and other sporting challenges, as well as organising music festivals, quiz nights and gala evenings in their pubs.

Wright said, “We’re delighted with the enthusiasm shown by so many of our pub and bar colleagues – and not a little impressed by their physical fitness: one of our general managers completed a 200km cycle ride and one-and-a-half Marathons in just five days!

“It’s unlikely that the ops team will match this level of athletic prowess, however we are confident the challenge will bring in donations and take us closer to our target of raising £70,000 for Cancer Research by next February.”

Last year, the ops team completed a Cycle-a-thon aboard the Tattershall Castle, which collected more than £10,000 for Help for Heroes.  This year, the Ops Challenge has been expanded to include more activity in pubs and bars, including the Floating Comedy Show featuring six well known comedians and, on the previous night, a Charity Gala Evening at Henry’s Café Bar and VIA in West India Quay.

Sian Billingsley, Senior Local Fundraising Manager at Cancer Research UK said, “We’re delighted that TCG staff have already managed to raise such an impressive amount to support the pioneering work of Cancer Research UK. We receive no government funding so the support of people like the staff at TCG is absolutely critical in helping us to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has fundraised towards this total so far.”
