Teddy Bears’ Picnic returns to The Bear of Burton

Following the success of last year’s Teddy Bears’ Picnic, The Bear of Burton, a stunning Fuller’s pub in Burton, near Christchurch, is delighted to be hosting the event for a second year. The fun begins at 3pm on Thursday 28 March 2024, when over 50 children are expected to join in the fun. All proceeds are going to Julia’s House, a local charity offering respite and care for long-term and terminally ill children and their families. Tickets are £5 per child – but Teddies can come for free.

As well as a picnic, face-painting, pass the parcel and teddy biscuit icing, the event will include a very popular raffle for the grown-ups with a superb selection of prizes. Last year’s event raised £1,000 – and the team at The Bear of Burton are hoping that this year will deliver an even bigger donation for Julia’s House.

General Manager Tania Cook said: “Last year was such a fantastic day and our Teddy Bear’s Picnic is the perfect way for local children to start the Easter Holidays. The event itself is total mayhem – but everyone had a great time and we saw an amazing array of teddies joining in.  Emma Walters, my assistant manager, can’t wait to don her giant teddy outfit for a second time and lead the way in the party games.

“Julia’s House is an amazing charity – and I’m delighted to be linking up with them again this year. Easter is a real family time and we all want to help Julia’s House deliver the best possible Easter for their residents. Hosting a Teddy Bears’ picnic seems appropriate as we are named in honour of Robert Southey, a former Burton resident who wrote Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and we are determined to make it bigger and better every year.

“We hosted around 50 teddies at our first event last year. This year I’d love to hit 75 and we aim to continue to build each year. The record for a Teddy Bears’ Picnic is 33,000 bears – but I’m not sure Burton is big enough for that much stuffing!

“Pubs have always been at the heart of their communities and The Bear of Burton is no exception. We’ve been working hard to make sure that we offer a wide range of events, with something for everyone from live music and quizzes to craft markets and coffee mornings. If you’ve not been down to see us – please do. We have an amazing team, 10 beautiful bedrooms, delicious food from Head Chef David Basher and his team, a great range of beers and wines, and a wonderful pub with a lovely terrace to boot. What more could you want?”
