Beer has come a long way in its 5,000-year history, with the number of women drinking craft beer up 6% in the last three years and 70% of women associating themselves as craft beer consumers. However, women aren’t just drinking it; they’re brewing it, owning it, writing about it and even cooking with it – when it comes to beer in 2019, women are leading the way.

To celebrate the representation of women in beer, Five Points will be hosting a ‘Women in Beer’ panel series, to coincide with International Women’s Day. The first event will be taking place on Thursday 7th March, at the Pembury Tavern, in Hackney, hosted by Angelica Malin, Editor and founder of About Time Magazine. The panel will be hosted by Duvel Marketing Manager and Beer Sommelier, Natalya Watson, Brewing Professor Rachel Sutherland, Head Brewer at Burnt Mill Brewery and founder of International Women’s Collaborative Brew Days (IWCBD) Sophie De Ronde, Honest Brew Art Director, Britney Beeby, and Charlotte Owen, Head of Customer Experience at Honest Brew. With discussions exploring the challenges and journeys women brewers, writers and professors have faced in the industry. The talks will also range from the lack of females in STEM subjects to why it’s important to continue making the beer sector accessible for all.

During the talk, guests can sip on the specially brewed ‘Straight Up Pale Ale’; harnessing the same great taste and quality as all of Five Points craft beers, this collaboration brew is packed with dry-hopped amarillo, simcoe and citra and bursting with citrus and tropical notes.

Ed Mason, Co-Founder and Managing Director of The Five Points Brewing Company, said: “The Pembury Tavern is committed to the local and wider community, and we’re proud to be the hub that brings people together to celebrate women in the industry, while also raising awareness of a great charity, Rosa.”

Tickets for the event can be bought from Eventbrite for £5, which includes a free pint of Straight Up Pale and there will be a raffle on the night, with all proceeds going to female-led charity, Rosa – a fund set up to support initiatives that benefit women and girls in the UK.

The panel talk will be taking place in a separate wing of the Pembury Tavern, so the pub will be open as usual for those wanting to be the first to try the new beer.

Straight Up Pale has an ABV of 4.6% and is available to purchase for a limited time only from Honest Brew, Five Points online shop, or from The Pembury Tavern.
