THE NORTH EAST BREWERS SWEEP THE BOARD AT SIBA BEER X

Last week saw an amazing haul of awards for five North East breweries, at the SIBA Beer X 2014, held in Sheffield.

Mordue Brewery won Gold for its speciality beer “Killswitch 51” at 5.0%, brewed with Munich malt and with six different, new world hop additions.

“Killswitch 51” then went on to win Bronze in the SupremeChampion finals, currently third best beer in the UK !

They also had another success, winning Silver with their “American Amber” beer at 4.3%, in Keg format.

Tynebank Brewery won a Gold for their Silver Dollar 4.9%

Anarchy Brewery also won Gold for their Sublime Chaos, a 7% stout.

Allendale Brewery won a Bronze for their Golden Plover 4.0% in bottle.

Wylam Brewery won a Bronze for Jake Head 6.3% and another Bronze for Flannel Hammer 7.5%.

This goes to show the depth and strength of brewing we have in the North East at present, to win so many awards at a national competition is unprecedented. This is reflected in the amount of fantastic craft beer bars operating in the city and surrounding areas, driven by the knowledgeable beer drinkers of the North East, which make the brewers themselves, strive to push the beer crafting boundaries.

We have organised a press event, showcasing the seven award winning beers from the five North East breweries. This will be held at “Pleased To Meet You”, Newcastle, 12.00 pm, Wednesday 26th March 2014  http://ptmy-newcastle.co.uk/

Please come along to talk to the award winning brewers, they will all be there, along with their awards and not forgetting the important bit, all of the beers will be there for you to try (on us of course), it should be an unforgettable event and look forward to meeting you all.
