Thornbridge Brewery launches a competition to find the new Faux Lord of Thornbridge Hall to win a takeover of the Hall and a year’s supply of beer.

THIS IS NOT FAKE NEWS!

Have you always wanted to become the Lord or Lordess of the Manor? Now you can as Thornbridge Brewery are giving one lucky person the chance to become the new “Faux Lord” or “Faux Lordess” of Thornbridge, winning a year’s supply of beer in the process.

The competition is part of the brewery’s new “Faux Lord – Real Beer” campaign which aims to reignite the spirit of George Marpleswho became the self-appointed “Lord Marples” after buying Thornbridge Hall in 1896.

‘Faux Lords. They’re our kind of people.’ says Simon Webster, CEO of Thornbridge, ‘They don’t have the blue blood, but they have
the imagination and the drive to succeed whilst having some fun along the way. Our favourite was George Marples of Thornbridge
Hall. He had no official title, so he made one up, declaring himself Lord Marples, renovating the Hall and building a private railway
station so the Queen could visit.’

It’s now been over one hundred years since George Marples ignored the facts and declared himself “Lord Marples” of Thornbridge
Hall. So it’s time to crown the new “Faux Lord” of Thornbridge.

Launching on the most faux day of the year – April 1st the competition, based on Instagram requires entrants to submit a photo
of themselves “Lording it up” and striking their best “Faux Lord” pose. Entrants need to tag the brewery @Thornbridge using
#FauxLorditup and describe what they’re the Faux Lord of.

‘The story of Marples and his success has always intrigued us,’ says Webster ‘and we do salute his spirit and swagger. When we
first established the brewery at Thornbridge, we felt his “can do” approach inspired us as we aimed to build a new business without
a history of brewing and we actually christened our first beer, “Lord Marples”, in his honour. Marples was successful and made
his mark and we like to think we are doing likewise in the beer world. He had a lot of fun along the way and we hope our
“Faux Lord-Real Beer” competition will create some fun just as all good beer should.’

Thornbridge Brewery was founded in the grounds of Thornbridge Hall, Ashford-in-the-Water in Derbyshire. The first craft
beers were produced in 2005, and Thornbridge rapidly expanded opening a new state-of-the art 30 barrel brewery in 2009.
Thornbridge has won more than 350 awards since opening, is considered by many to be the UK’s first craft brewery and
distributes beer to more than 30 countries. Thornbridge operates a group of six pubs in the Sheffield area and, in an exciting
new venture, their first pub outside of the UK in s-Hertogenbosh in the Netherlands.

The Faux Lord –Real Beer competition is running alongside an exciting programme of Thornbridge events and beer releases
in 2017, including the Year of Beer where the brewery sets to release a limited addition brew each month.

The campaign has been developed by Sheffield based creative studio Peter & Paul as part of a six month campaign
to introduce the new Faux Lord of Thornbridge.
