Tribute IPA | International Women’s Collab Brew Day

Wild Card Brewery has released a new batch of their seventh beer as a part of International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day. This year Wild Card Brewery chose to brew an IPA in tribute to Ada Lovelace, a mathematician and writer, who is widely celebrated as the first computer programmer.

Every year breweries all around the world gather on International Women’s Day which falls on March 8th to brew a beer together under a theme. This year’s theme was ‘Unite Tribute’.

Jaega Wise, Head Brewer, said: “It’s important to recognise the work of the trailblazing women who came before us and who are often left out of the history books. Women like Ada Lovelace paved the way for women like me and it’s important that we remember that and recognise it.”

This beer has received a large re-brew in order to fulfill demand from the breweries loyal customers as well as being featured in Beer52’s June subscription box highlighting ‘Beer For Good’.

International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day or IWCBD for short is a project which aims to promote and encourage more women in the beer industry through collaboration and education.

Wild Card Brewery has been a host to this project since the start. Every year it gets bigger with more women attending the event whether they work in the industry, take part in homebrewing or they’re simply avid beer fans.

Jaega said: “I try and make it as educational as possible, so you’ll leave knowing more about beer than when you came. It’s about making connections, making new friends and most importantly having fun.”

Back in March, they commenced brewing as a collective and spent part of the day being educated by Jaega on recognising different varieties of hops by looking at their different characteristics.

The designer of the can label is Yijing Li. She’s a London-based graphic designer and illustrator. Originally from China, Yijing graduated from London College of Communication with an MA in Graphic Design. Following graduation, Yijing founded her design studio in 2014.

Tribute IPA (5.4 % | 330ml can) will be available from shop.wildcardbrewery.co.uk from 8th June for £28 for 12 and £50 for 24.

ABOUT

Friends and fellow homebrewers William Harris, Andrew Birkby and Jaega Wise founded Wild Card Brewery in 2012 at the Ravenswood Industrial Estate Walthamstow.

Jaega made a total career change moving from the world of chemical engineering to brewing.

With support from the local community, Wild Card’s shed became one of Walthamstow’s best-loved bars, hosting beer festivals, tap takeovers and live music.

Meanwhile, in the brewery, Jaega was working away. By 2017 she had 2 award-winning beers under her belt and was struggling to make enough beer to keep up with demand. In 2017, Wild Card started a crowdfunding campaign to help move to a bigger site.

In 2018 the brewery moved over to Lockwood Way, where they have doubled capacity – which means lots of Wild Card beer for all.

Wild Card Brewery now has two taprooms in Walthamstow, and our beer is available in pubs, bars, restaurants and supermarkets across the UK.
