WEST, Glasgow’s favourite independent brewery, is celebrating the festive season with the launch of Dunkelweizen, an unfiltered dark wheat beer.Brewed with a complex grain bill, adding another dimension of flavour to the typical notes of banana, clove, and fruit predominant in a wheat beer, Dunkelweizen (ABV 5.2%) is full of such sweet tastes as candied citrus peel and fruit syrup, enhanced by aromas of toast, roasted nuts and even a faint hint of the spices used in mulled wine.Much maltier than the WEST Hefeweizen, Dunkelweizen is left unfiltered and is cloudy brown in colour.WEST owner Petra Wetzel said: “Hefeweizen is one of our most popular beers, and our new Dunkelweizen brings beer enthusiasts the same much-loved flavours – but with a darker, richer twist!“‘Dunkel’ is German for dark, and ‘weizen’ is wheat. Our brewers wanted to make the WEST Dunkelweizen stand out, and used techniques such as tweaking the mash temperature and other forms of brewing wizardry to encourage the yeast to create more pronounced clove and spice flavours.“A limited batch of Dunkelweizen has been brewed for release at the end of this month, but if it proves to be as popular as we think, then there is every chance of it becoming a regular WEST beer!”The WEST Dunkelweizen will be sold at WEST On The Green, the stylish beer hall and restaurant on Glasgow Green which this year was crowned Scotland’s Pub of the Year, as well as WEST on the Corner, a bar and restaurant on Glasgow’s Woodlands Road in the West End. It will also be available to direct customers.ENDSFor more information on WEST Brewery, please contact Petra Wetzel onDate: 28 November 2016Graham LironiCo-Founder and DirectorSuite 2/1City Wall House32 Eastwood AvenueShawlandsGlasgow G41 3NSOffice: 0141 297 1699Mobile: 07837 604459Follow me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/grahamlironi
