CAMRA names 2025’s top bottled beer at the Great British Beer Festival

Women shine in Champion Bottled Beer of Britain 2025 competition. St Austell Proper Job takes Gold at the Great British Beer Festival.

Two women-led brews have taken the top honours in CAMRA’s prestigious Champion Bottled Beer of Britain 2025 competition, announced at the Great British Beer Festival at the NEC Birmingham

The coveted award recognises the very best bottle-conditioned beers available in the UK. With rigorous blind tastings and nominations spanning two years of regional heats and national rounds, it remains one of the most respected accolades in the brewing industry.

St Austell Proper Job, brewed under the guidance of Brewing Director Georgina Young, claimed the Gold medal this year.

Georgina Young said: “We are very honoured and delighted to be recognised in this category with our amazing Proper Job IPA, which was first brewed in 2004, created using original new style hops made with Chinook and Cascade. It’s incredibly rewarding to see it still standing out two decades later.”

Silver was awarded to Monty’s Mischief, designed by brewery co-founder Pam Honeyman in Powys.

Bronze went to Imperial Brown Stout by Kernel Brewery in London.

CAMRA's People Director and advisory panel member for Women on Tap, Laura Emson, said: "Winning awards for producing excellent beer is just one way to help shake the perception that the industry isn’t for women. Pioneers like Georgina and Pam have followed in the footsteps of generations of women making beer and are inspiring a new generation. Hopefully their success will spark others’ interest and have more breweries benefit from the talent out there waiting to be tapped into."

All three winning beers are available commercially and can be enjoyed by cask beer lovers across the UK.
