Citizens of Everywhere – Beer Uniting UK and Europe

The pan-European Citizens of Everywhere beer project launches in venues this weekend, with the first cans and bottles already in the hands of eager subscribers.

Citizens of Everywhere is the biggest pan-European craft beer collaboration project ever undertaken. It brings together 12 great craft breweries from across the UK with 12 great craft breweries from 12 different European countries. The 12 brewing pairs each brewed a beer celebrating an EU achievement.

The project was created by Thirsty Cambridge and Moor Beer, who felt it was important to keep everyone continuing to work positively together, whatever course the political future of the country may take.

Speaking of the project, Justin Hawke from Moor Beer said, “The world, industry, and our social lives are so intertwined these days. We love working with other brewers, suppliers, customers, employees and friends from all over the EU and the rest of the world. The term ‘collaborate’ is getting used much more regularly these days – it’s key we don’t forget that. This project epitomises the concept by bringing together everyone in the supply chain, from the grower to the consumer, using beer as the social lubricant it has been for millennia. Long may it continue!”

Co-organiser Sam Owens from Thirsty Cambridge said, “When you finally see all 12 beers in the flesh, it’s a great feeling. It may not make much difference to the political landscape, but at least we’re doing our bit. Well done to everyone involved in this project.”

Thanks to online beer subscription service Beer52, nearly 700k cans and bottles of the beers will be distributed directly to consumers. Launch events will be held from Friday 22 March in London, Bristol, Cambridge, Manchester, Berkshire, Edinburgh, Hull, Newport, Norwich, Southampton, and Newcastle, with additional venues coming on board as word gets out. The Thirsty, Beer52 and Moor team will gather at Moor Beer Company’s London Vault in Bermondsey at 1500 on Saturday the 23rdfor those wanting to meet the team behind the project.

Callum Stewart from Beer52 commented, “If ever there was a time to have a few beers with our continental neighbours it is now.  The ‘Citizens of Everywhere Project’ really chimed with what we believe in and has triumphed at showcasing the universal power of beer to bring people together!”
