Welcoming new corporate members to the Guild

A warm welcome to three new corporate members who have recently joined the Guild:

Lowlander Beer is an award-winning brewery from the Netherlands – literally the Low Lands. Each of its botanically brewed beers has a unique story and a unique flavour. Lowlander’s ‘Chief Botanical Officer’, Frederik Kampman, worked for years in breweries and gin and genever distilleries in both the Netherlands and internationally. ‘As soon as I got into the world of distilling I was gripped by the number of herbs and spices used. As a beer lover, I started to wonder what these botanicals could add to beer.’ And so the idea for Lowlander Beer was born: unique beers brewed with botanicals.

Salcombe Brewery was founded in September 2016 by a local couple who had holidayed in the area for many years before moving down to South Devon. They wanted to create a company ethos of an eco-friendly, locally supportive brewery making a rich variety of mouth-watering beer. The seahorse logo behind the brand is representative of the fact that the Salcombe estuary is one of the few places in the UK you can find the rarer of the two species of seahorse. Inspired by local surroundings, Salcombe Brewery Co. takes pride in its local roots, which is reflected in the branding. Unique, fresh and contemporary, the seahorse is a seal of high quality represented by the beers. The Brewery have partnered with The Seahorse Trust with 5p a bottle of Seahorse beer going toward the work of the trust. More beers include the multi award-winning Island Street Porter, popular Salcombe Pale Ale and the beer which encouraged the owner to buy the brewery – Shingle Bay.

Timothy Taylor established the brewery in the centre of Keighley, West Yorkshire in 1858, moving to The Knowle Spring, our present site, in 1863. The principle of not accepting second best was laid down then and remains with us to the present day. This means that the very finest ingredients are used to brew the best possible beers, with Landlord winning many awards, including both CAMRA’s Champion Beer of Britain and the Brewing Industry Challenge Cup four times.

We’ve been brewing beer for over 160 years and along the way we’ve learned a thing or two about what makes for that rewarding and consistent ‘Taylor’s Taste’. We can’t put it down to one thing, or even a couple of things. It’s the result of many things that we do our own way, still the traditional way, and our refusal to compromise on quality of ingredients or brewing.

“Taylor’s Taste” is achieved by using only the finest natural ingredients, taking pride in the brewing process and allowing full time for the ales to ferment and mature, thereby creating a unique family of beers.

Guild members are more than welcome to come visit the brewery, if you would like to visit please email scott.cameron@timtaylors.co.uk and we can organise this. We are also more than happy to send samples of beers out to members to review, again if you can email Scott for these and also for any press enquiries.
