13 GUNS SHOOTS STRAIGHT TO THE FINAL OF THE INDIE BEER CAN FESTIVAL COMPETITION

Award-winning Northern brewer, Thwaites, has announced that its popular American IPA, 13 Guns, has been chosen as a finalist in the Indie Beer Can Festival competition – just three months after it was first made available in a can.

First brewed to coincide with American Independence Day in 2011, the 5.5% six-hopped beer has been a big hit this side of the pond and is already available in cask, Petainer keg and bottles.

The competition, which is run in partnership with the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA), was established to showcase the best canned beers from independent UK and Ireland brewers.

Lee Williams, Thwaites Marketing Manager said: “We’re delighted to have reached the final of the Indie Beer Can Festival competition, having only launched the 330ml cans in April. The 330ml can is already a popular pack format in countries where craft beer is more established and we’ve successfully shown there’s also a huge market for it here too, where it appeals to younger craft drinkers, especially for outdoor events and festivals.

“Our 13 Guns beer continues to go from strength to strength, scooping an array of industry accolades as it goes – let’s hope that the Indie Beer Can judges enjoy 13 Guns as much as our customers.”

The Indie Beer Can Festival will reveal its winner at The Old Rag Factory in London final on 11 September. The esteemed panel of judges includes Tesco industry experts, Adrian Tierney Jones and Jane Peyton, President of Cask Brewing Systems inc, Peter Love and Graham Fenton, Chairman of the Can Makers.

The last 12 months have been a seminal time for 13 Guns – its distinctive American hopped flavours with piney, resinous notes having received critical acclaim from beer reviewers from day one. A feature in the prestigious drinkers’ bible ‘1001 Beers You Must Try Before You Die’ was followed with the beer winning Label of the Year at the International Beer Awards.
