A sauce of conversation: Camden Town Brewery and HP announce the launch of collaboration beer to get the British generations talking

Camden HP Brown Ale is a full English-inspired ale that combines the sweet, fruity, spicy and tangy flavours of HP with fresh tasting Camden beer

London, 15th November 2023, 00:01: Camden Town Brewery has announced the launch of its latest collaboration beer, introducing: Camden HP Brown Ale. The two great British brands have joined forces to unite generations of beer and brown sauce fans across the country with a new sauce of conversation.

HP Brown Ale combines the very best of two British staples that have been enjoyed over dinner tables and local pubs for centuries. Designed to be sipped on over dinner, supper or tea with your Nan, Dad or best mate. It’s up to you and yours to decide whether HP really does go with everything.

Inspired by the bold and timeless flavours of everyone’s favourite brown sauce, instead of adding HP sauce directly into the beer (save that for your butties!), the brewing team used the ingredients and flavours of HP and added them into the brewing process for a fresh and unique brown ale which gives a taste of what HP and Camden do best.

How do you make a beer taste like HP you ask? Camden added loads of Aromatic malt, a specifically made sweeter malt, to replicate the rich chestnut colour of HP. Adding date puree for a background fruity flavour reminiscent of HP sauce, coupled with a dash of Juicy Mosaic hops late in the brew for good measure, HP Brown Ale is an unexpected take on a British classic.

To replicate the much-loved taste of HP, the brewing team also added some of the sauce’s signature spices to the beer for a subtle peppery and clove background. Finally, a hybrid fermentation with a sour ale strain has given this beer its not-quite-sour, not-quite-tart, ‘tangy’ note that HP is famous for.

Fred Nesbitt, Head of Marketing at Camden Town Brewery, said: ‘What are two things that us Brits love? Beer and sauce. Lager or ale, red or brown – we also love a debate. These debates are quintessentially British, and span across generations so we have teamed up with HP to brew a beer which we hope is a sauce for conversation between you and your nan, or just your mates. Enjoy.’

Georgina Fotopoulou, Marketing Manager at HP Sauce, said: Here at HP we are so excited to be working with Camden Town Brewery on this brilliant partnership. For generations people have been enjoying HP over the dinner table and now they get to enjoy the intense and rich flavour in one of their favourite drinks – beer – and the result is delicious. We hope our HP fans will love this as much as they love our sauce!’

Camden HP Brown Ale has an ABV of 4.0% and is available to order now for a limited time only in 330ml bottles for £15 for 4-pack of Camden HP Brown Ale and 1x Camden Town Edition HP Sauce via the Camden webshop. And a beer that tastes this good deserves a full range of merch that looks just as fresh – with saucy accessories from logo tees to bucket hats, good taste is timeless.

To celebrate the launch, HP sauce have designed limited edition ‘Camden’ labels featuring the iconic Camden Lock Bridge. A celebration of the home of Camden’s original brewery, and the coming together of two well-loved brands, the sauce is available to purchase via the Camden web shop.
