Award winning micro-brewery Tūn Brewing Co., is launching their new Double IPA, Quaternity, on Thursday 6th of November. The new release will be pouring for the first time at the Independent Salford Beer Festival (ISBF).
A bold and warm beer!
Named after Carl Jung’s archetype of quaternity — a symbol of balance and completeness — the 8.3% ABV Double IPA unites the four elemental forces of brewing: water, hops, malt, and yeast. Together they form a harmonious whole, embodying the unity of craft and creativity.
Bursting with ripe stonefruit, strawberry and passionfruit on the nose. A bold tropical and resinous flavour leads into a soft, bready malt body, supporting a punchy bitterness and smooth, warming finish.
About the new beer, Richard Alston, founder of Tūn Brewing Co., said:
“Quaternity is a beer about balance and wholeness — inspired by Carl Jung’s archetype that four parts coming together make something complete. He saw it throughout human history through various cultural and religious elements, such as mandalas, and I see it in beer: malt, water, hops, and yeast all working in harmony. It’s a way of tying my love of psychology into brewing — a little nod to the idea that craft can be both creative and meaningful. The result is a punchy double IPA full of tropical flavour and proper bitterness — bold, expressive, and made to celebrate the unity of those four essential elements.”
The importance of community
Quaternity will be first poured at Hemsley House on Thursday for the Independent Salford Beer Festival. The volunteer-run Festival was the perfect place to launch Tūn’s new beer and reaffirming their attachment to the local community, and the values of connection and friendship shared by the two organisations.
About the launch at the festival and his tasting, Richard added:
“We’re thrilled to bring Quaternity to the Independent Salford Beer Festival and to join a community that values shared purpose and local connection. Research from University of Oxford shows that regular visits to the local pub, together with friends, build bigger social networks and stronger feelings of community and belonging — and by extension, better overall wellbeing. At this tasting event on Friday I’ll be guiding guests through our current range and I’ll talk about how our values of craft, community and connection underlie everything we do at Tūn Brewing Company. I look forward to raising a glass with you, exploring flavour, sharing stories and celebrating the spirit of independent brewing together.”
Richard’s tasting at the festival will be on the Friday day session. He will talk about the inspiration behind his beers, Tūn Brewing Co.’s philosophy, and of course his journey from psychiatry to brewing beer!
Quaternity is Vegan and Gluten-free and is available to buy on the brewery website and in a selection of bottle shops.

Notes to Editors
About Tūn Brewing Co.:
The name "Tūn" reflects two key inspirations. Tūn is an Old English word for settlement or community, a nod to the connections beer can foster. This word lives on in the suffix "-ton," found in the names of many British places, including the founder’s home in Chorlton, Manchester. Secondly, "Tun" is the name given to the brewing vessels, such as a mash tun or lauter tun, that are essential in the creation of beer. Together, these meanings represent Tūn’s vision: to create beers that bring people together while honouring the craft of brewing.
Brewing has been part of Richard Alston’s life since his teenage years. What began as a hobby later became a form of creative expression and fulfilment during a period of personal mental health challenges. Today, that passion has grown into Tūn Brewing Co., a microbrewery that is as much about community and creativity as it is about great beer.
