Beer lovers’s mud-run fest! First ever ‘Barrel of Laps’ challenge and beer, wine & cider festival – 29 July 2017

The grounds of Claydon Estate in Bucks will feature a  two-mile lap obstacle course for contestants to pit themselves against and win beer along the way!

Fresh for summer 2017, the UK’s biggest provider of adventure racing, Rat Race, is launching a brand new festival event called ‘Barrel of Laps’, to be held at the beautiful Claydon Estate in Buckinghamshire.

The event is part of a wider beer, cider and wine festival being held over the weekend of 28-30 July at Claydon that weekend with artisan foods, 50 different ales, lashings of cider and wine tastings too.

On-site camping is available all weekend and there will be a huge big top tent providing undercover space for the beer, wine and cider tastings. Entertainment will include a fabulous music programme featuring the Bon Jovi Experience and live band Avatar. The event is heralded as a “a classic weekend in the English countryside you’re not going to want to miss.”

The highlight will be the first ever ‘Barrel of Laps’ mud run race on the Saturday 29 July – running all day. The challenge is simple: participants must carry a beer barrel, weighing in at 3.4kg, around a 2 mile lapped course as many times as they can to earn beer rewards as they go.

It’s a weekend getaway that combines a ‘tough mudder’ fun, outdoor obstacle course with beer! What’s not to love.
How does it work? There will be on-course challenges that each barrel carrier has to complete and you can run alone or in a team. At this event it is the barrel’s laps that count so runners of all abilities can take on the challenge together. Plus, the more laps you do the more beer you’ll earn! Complete five laps to earn a beer for all of your team and do 13 laps (that’s a marathon) to earn another.

All finishers will be rewarded with a medal at the finish too. Proceeds from the event will go to children’s charity, Children with Cancer UK.

Alex Reily, Marketing Manager at Rat Race Events, said: “Rat Race Barrel of Laps is a beer and wine festival for those who love a marathon session. From Beer Miles to casual pints at the pub after a race or training session, beer has always gone hand in hand with running. Unwinding with a beer gives runners the chance to share tales on how and why that PB (personal best) was achieved or missed by a hair’s breadth.

He added: “Now we’re taking the relationship between beer and running one step further this summer with Barrel of Laps.”

Wrapped up inside a beer and wine festival, Barrel of Laps will be a grand meeting of beer and running. Organisers, Rat Race, are renowned for creating that Big Event feel and this will be no different. With on-site camping, live music and 50 craft ales, this is one event for the beer loving runner or good sport.

Those who complete the marathon session, that’s 13 laps, with their barrel will earn the highest rewards including a bespoke marathon session medal!

All of this is set inside the beautiful Claydon Estate in Buckinghamshire, once home to Florence Nightingale. Don’t miss out on this classic weekend in the English Countryside. It’s time to bust that beer belly!
