CALEDONIAN BREWERY’S NEW LIMITED EDITION AN ALE TO TREASURE

Caledonian Dark Crystal

November’s Dark Crystal brewed with trio of malts and burnt toffee flavours

Brewers at Edinburgh’s remaining original brewery have revealed their latest addition to their monthly guest beer line-up. Ruby ale Dark Crystal has been developed with a trio of dark malts to create a rich and smooth mouth feel with a roast edge ending to finish. Its gentle hops and bittersweet burnt toffee and caramel flavours perfectly complement classic winter warmers such as roasted meats and smoked foods.

This 4.2% dark ruby beer combines the spicy, blackcurrant aromatic notes of British Bramling Cross hops with specially selected toasted dark malts resulting in full body and a roast edge ending to finish. Dark Crystal malt adds a toffee sweetness, black malt gives the beer its rich dark colour and pale chocolate malt gives it a biscuit dry fullness.

Craig Steven, Caledonian Brewery’s Beers Manager and Scotland’s first Beer Academy Certified beer sommelier explains: “This precious ruby ale is a great addition to a winter cask range, especially with the darker nights now upon us.  The brewers here at Caledonian have developed Dark Crystal’s special trio of toasted malts that are perfectly suited to roasted meats, smoked foods and cheeses, making it the ideal ale for food and menu pairings to help drive sales for our customers.”

Dark Crystal is available to order on draught nationwide from 26th October 2015 and throughout November.

About Caledonian Brewery

Caledonian Brewery was founded in 1869 in Shandon, Edinburgh, Scotland. The brewery produces award-winning Deuchars IPA, Flying Scotsman and Edinburgh Castle throughout the year, as well as monthly and seasonal ales.

In July 2015, Caledonian unveiled their pilot brewery which will drive beer innovation through the flexibility of its smaller brew runs. Affectionately known as Wee George after the brewery’s founding father, the new equipment is being used to develop both new and existing recipes on site.

Known locally as The Caley, Caledonian Brewery has been owned by HEINEKEN since 2008.

Edinburgh’s only original brewery still standing, we believe in honouring the past, relishing the future and celebrating the present, with a few beers of course.
