Campaign to save the historic Iron Duke on Jellicoe Road Great Yarmouth

The Friends of the Iron Duke are approaching people in the media, pub industry and hospitality asking them to help spread the word about the beautiful heritage pub’s plight.

Now owned by the Great Yarmouth Preservation Trust who seem reluctant  to market the pub as a pub. It was not a failed business it was acquired by the corporate giant Bourne Leisure who’s sole intention was to demolish . It was not a pub no one wanted it was a pub no one could buy. In need of major restoration work due to Bourne Leisure’s abuse , however it is a stunning example of an interwar pub.

Original bars and features , it was a busy much loved public house. The history attached to the pub is wonderful. The Iron Duke must be given its chance to reopen.

The noted beer writer Roger Protz has just written an article about the Iron Duke. It was the prestigious C20 Society’s Building of the Month last August. Featured in the Observer, Private Eye, the Society of Architectural Historians collaborated with us to write another feature.  The pub was also featured in the Sainsbury Centre’s Art Deco by the Sea Exhibition. Plus so much more! All of this will be a wonderful springboard for anyone wanting to bring the heritage pub back to life.

If there is anyone you know who might be interested please ask them to get in touch so we can ensure The Great Yarmouth Preservation Trust responds.
