Celebrating 50 Years of a Style Creating Beer

The craft beer revolution took root over 50 years ago when pioneers such as Anchor Brewing’s Fritz Maytag travelled the world in search of authentic, quality beers and then updated them for modern tastes. But it was one beer in particular that was on everyone’s lips and was so revered that it created an entirely new style of beer – Fuller’s ESB. First brewed in 1971, it was so unique and impactful that it sparked the imagination of professional and home brewers around the world. CAMRA has twice awarded it Supreme Champion Beer of Britain. Its enduring flavour has continued to make it a destination beer to this day.

To celebrate this incredible milestone, Moor Beer are incredibly proud to work once again with Fuller’s Brewery to brew Rebirth, a beer based on the original ESB recipe of 1971 and showcase it alongside ESB in select Fuller’s pubs. Moor Beer will also host an exclusive event at their Vault in Bermondsey on Thursday 9 December. The event will include a talk and tutored tasting by former Fuller’s Brewing Director John Keeling, and Moor Beer’s founder, Justin Hawke. Both Fuller’s ESB and the collaboration brew, Rebirth, will be available, and a special ESB Pie featuring the beer is being made to add to the celebration.

Reminiscing about ESB, John Keeling said, “ESB was the first Fullers beer I ever drank, it made me want to work for them. Luckily they didn’t object.”

Speaking about the collaboration, Justin Hawke said, “I was born the same year ESB was first brewed. I grew up hearing my father tell me about his travels drinking Fuller’s, and ESB was a style I brewed often as a home brewer. When we were invited by Fuller’s to work with them years ago on their Fuller’s & Friends project we reached back into the brewing journals and brewed a modern interpretation of the original recipe, naming it Rebirth. I am thrilled that we are able to recreate this amazing beer again, and for the first time it will also be available as a can conditioned beer. We’re also honoured to host John so we can share the stage once again.”

To guarantee your place at this celebratory event, which includes tastings of each of the beers as well as an ESB Pie, please RSVP by contacting press@moorbeer.co.uk. Seating is limited to 50 people so book quickly.

Hope to see you there!
